Mid-November Faves

 Friday!

And time to pause to share FIVE of our FAVE blessings from the past week.  Many of us in the blogging community participate in this weekly exercise by linking up at Susanne's site.  Head on over if you're new to this to read the guidelines and link up.

FIVE FAVES

  • RAISES!  Both my husband, after his 20 year performance review last week, and my self, after work one day this past week, discovered that we had been awarded salary raises at our respective jobs!  Dave was expecting just a bonus (which he did receive) but not a raise.  And as for me?  I  teach at a non-profit special education agency and we are poor.  Our budget is basically what's known as a "Shoe string budget" and so none of us expected a raise this year.  Well, I received one that's pretty significant and I was very thankful to God the day I heard the news because we have many house repairs to tackle come spring and this extra money will come in handy.  I'm thankful for good jobs.

devotions on the deck
  • MID-MORNING BREAK: Saturday, Dave and I were up fairly early and I went to get my blood work done (I had a complete work-up in June but doc wanted my cholesterol re-checked as it had gone up quite a bit last spring).  I then came home to eat breakfast and do chores and finally around 9:30 was able to have a coffee break with my devotional book on the deck.  The temps were warm enough for barefeet and a tee shirt! I would have worn shorts but when I left for the lab it was quite chilly and I never bothered changing once I was home.  I'm so thankful for mornings on the deck and cannot believe how mild our autumn here in New York State has been!

  • LATE DAY HIKE!  Saturday afternoon, I ended up doing quite a bit of housework and baking plus dinner prep.  So around 3:30 I was longing for a walk in the woods....and my oldest daughter actually said she wanted to go  too!  We just headed to the nature conservancy preserve here in town but we were the only people on one of the trails and it was a lovely late day hike.  I'm thankful for being so close to this nature preserve and seeing it change as the seasons pass.  In the first pic the fallen leaves have completely covered the dirt trail.  Just 2 weeks ago those leaves were all on the trees!  I'm so thankful we had a great 2 mile hike and we just managed to get to our car as it got dark.

  • GOOD RESULTS! Sunday morning before church, I was checking my email and there were the cholesterol results!  I get them before my doctor typically as I set up a free online account with the lab company..  Anyways, my total went down from 216 to 178!!  and my LDL (bad cholesterol) went down from 131 to 103!!  So still 3 points higher than normal but still.....!!!  I was thrilled.  (my HDL still above 50 so I'm happy about that). When my doc called me on Tuesday, she asked me how I did this without being on a statin.  I told her I had done a lot of research and discovered this product.  It was recommended by the Harvard Medical group and I totally recommend it if you are struggling to lower your cholesterol. (I order mine from Amazon as is a bit cheaper).  Because I eat a mostly plant based diet, this was a no brainer for me.  (genetics play a role in high cholesterol so I could eat salad every day and still have high numbers). I'm so thankful I did my research and was able to share this with my primary doc so she can now share this with other patients.

Veteran's Day Morning

breakfast on the deck!
  • WARM DAYS!  We've had a wonderful couple of weeks with temps in the same range that late September and October usually are:  high 60s and one day 72!.  Wednesday was a day off from teaching due to Veteran's Day so I ate breakfast on the deck and it was  wonderful to be in the morning sun.  I'm  thankful the days have been so mild this autumn!

Those are my fave blessings from the week.

Another fave is that Joe Biden is declared our next President.  I voted for him although I am not a huge fan of him but for me, it was a matter of character and who is going to care more for human beings/social issues.  When my sister texted me the news (I had my phone away Saturday morning as I was cleaning the house but my Fitbit alerted me I had a text) I burst into tears of thankfulness.  As did my daughters and husband. We are very thankful and hopefully this nation will get turned around again.  I don't tend to get political on social media or this blog but it definitely is something I am thankful for. People in office I can respect.

No matter whom you voted for, I hope you have a totally relaxing weekend doing the things you love as you unwind from the work week.

Amen on all of your Faves, Faith, especially the last one about the election of Joe Biden. I am with you you, my vote was more against Trump than in favor of Biden, but so far I am very impressed with President Elect Biden! I just wish the Orange Man would come out of the Twilight Zone and concede and get on with the transition. So glad you and your husband both got raises and also that your cholesterol numbers improved. I did not get my usual yearly blood work this year due to the virus, but will do so early next year. Always good to try and stay healthy for us "older folks." ;-) Have a great weekend. I am still on a Facebook Fast, but will continue to check blogs. See you again soon.

You are having such a gorgeous fall over there. We seemed to have for the most part skipped fall and fell right into winter. In one week we were out in t-shirts soaking up the warmth and sun and a few days later we were shoveling out. But I love all seasons and don't find it too hard to find the beauty in the white also.

Oh and I forgot to say congrats on your raises. It's wonderful to be appreciated in a very tangible way.

Congratulations on your raises! That is really wonderful.
Our autumn weather is just what I need to 'adjust'. Today it is sunny but cold. As long as the sun is out, I can hope, right?
Your late day hike looks like a perfect place to enjoy nature!

Good news on the numbers in your life! Salaries going up and cholesterol going down. That is good news! It looks beautiful back there this fall! (I always think of the East Coast as 'back' there, because that's where I was born).

The temps here in MA were very warm as well. It’s going to begin to cool off now though. I’m happy about that. I like the weather the way it’s supposed to be though I didn’t mind being able to get onto the playground for a longer time with the children at work. Congratulations on your raises! That’s wonderful. Good jobs and you both must be very good employees as well.

Well definitely a week to be thankful. You both obviously deserved your raises and definitely a bonus in these difficult times. Well done n your cholestorol numbers too. I think you're right about family genetics playing a part. My hubby and several of his siblings have cholesterol issues. It's been milder here too but also wet! Not the right weather for getting out to hike. Make the most of it :)

Yay for raises and good lab results!!!!

It's still nice for hiking even though a bit chilly this week :)
