Well here we are at Friday again and I for one am super thankful tomorrow is Saturday because at 6 pm my quarantine will be lifted! (for those of you who don't know, both self-contained special ed preK rooms at our agency site had to quarantine, including the students, because someone came to work positive for covid19....we've been on quarantine since last Wednesday evening). Teaching live via Google Meets is NOT ok for preschoolers with special needs. But overall, things went well. And thankfully, the integrated classroom at our site has been fine. None of us have gotten ill from the 2 quarantined rooms and we are very thankful for that. Our other 3 sites are all doing fine and no one else in the agency has had to quarantine. (we have 3 classrooms at all 3 sites and 1 UPK classroom in a public school so that's 10 classes all together with about 62 employees).
So....let's count our blessings and find FIVE that are our FAVES. I do this weekly and then I link up over at Susanne's blog. She's been hosting this for a number of years now and I look forward to this every week.
FIVE FAVES
Dave's gaming area and seasonal storage area All of the stuff on these new shelves used to be scattered in piles all over the floor near the food shelves! |
The "pantry" for extra dry goods and some seasonal/deck items |
- BASEMENT CLEAN-UP! My husband was on vacation all last week but it wasn't until Friday after I posted the FFF that he decided to finally clear out the basement and put up more shelving (about 10 years ago, when our oldest was a senior in high school, he promised he would do so that summer.....um.....). Anyways, I found an open recycling center that will take just about any electronics. We had my old laptop to shred as well as an old microwave and monitor. wow. Dave said they don't charge a fee except for very large items so he's planning on going back with some other electronics we have, to get those recycled. This place is right in town and they literally shred your devices. We recycled 15 old textbooks from our grad school days along with other books that are obsolete. We also saved two that we found that I was wanting to read and didn't remember that we even own! Then he started clearing up the pantry side of the basement but realized we have to have the girls go through some of their stuff before we can finish this task. I'm thankful this long-awaited chore is finally done!
fragrant pine |
- WALKS! Because I've been in quarantine, I've been limited to just walking around my neighborhood with my mask on. But Sunday afternoon was so sunny and mild that I didn't want to wear my mask so I walked around the backyard and stopped at our large pine tree. Courtney planted this from a tiny seedling on Earth Day back when she was 8 so this tree is now about 19 yrs old! It wasn't as fragrant as it is in the spring, but it was so nice to just breathe it in. I'm thankful for God's creation and the mild winter to continue my walks.
winter beauty in our living room |
LOCAL ARTIST: Our oldest, Courtney, let me hang this painting above my little bookcase that holds my hiking books in the living room. It was painted by one of the artists who own a Paint and Sip studio in the city to the north of us. They were selling them at a discounted price so she bought it last winter. It's beautiful and replaces the Christmas wreath I had hanging there. Come spring, my spring flower wreath will hang there. For now, I'm thankful to have winter beauty to look at when I'm siting in my reading chair.
sunflower-veggie burger and hand-cut fries |
- VEGAN LUNCH! Claire, our youngest didn't have to work at $tarbucks on Wednesday and I had 2 google classroom circles to help with along with 2 meetings and lesson planning. So she offered to order us some lunch from this place (all vegan deli!) and she went to pick it up to avoid the exorbitant delivery fees. Dave didn't want anything and his lunch break is different from mine anyways, and Courtney was at her office so wasn't home. WOW. This was my first time having food from this deli and it was so large and so amazingly delicious. A total splurge but such a healthier option compared to a bison, turkey, or beef burger! I'm thankful for my daughter's offer and this amazing deli.
Gerry, our new family member! |
- GNOMED! Claire came in from work on Tuesday morning (she was working a split shift) and said "mom, why is there a gnome sign by our mailbox?" I was just ending a google classroom lesson so told her to wait. When I questioned her she repeated herself and said it was weird but it was just leaning on our mailbox. I had NO idea what she was talking about and she said she hadn't seen anyone approach the driveway. I went out, brought it in, and discovered a rolled up paper taped to the back with all these hilarious tips on how to welcome this gnome into our family. Claire wanted to call it Gerry (with a soft "g") so we dubbed him that and just cracked up reading all the tips. I had never heard of being gnomed! I wanted to know who left him, so put it on FB to find out if anyone would admit to gifting this to us, but so far no one has. It's a hoot! For now, he's living in the dining room near our spider plant Charlotte, and come April, he will live near the trellis on the deck. Another friend of mine sent me a link stating that gnoming someone is a thing. We've never heard of it and I asked several neighbors and they've never heard of this either! I guess we have an unsolved mystery on our hands. At any rate, I'm thankful for the cheerfulness of this little country gnome (i actually think gnomes are right up there with trolls...kinda creepy and tacky) and thankful it brought laughter to our home. I'm also thankful it's wooden and country style and goes with our house because I despise those garden gnomes one sees all around suburbia.
What are you thankful for this week?
Whatever it is, please do share, and go and have your selves a relaxing, fun weekend.

Sounds like a good week for you! You have inspired me to start on cleaning an organizing a particular room in our basement that badly needs it! Glad your quarantine is ending. You are right about online teaching be quite the challenge. Your daughters are so sweet. That vegan burger and fries looks great! Looking forward to the weekend here. See you again soon!
The book on my sidebar was so good! I have to update it to my 'Books' section of my blog. I gave it 4 starts on Goodreads.
My SIL had to quarantine with a 4 yo and a 5 yo in November. I think he should get the father of the year award. My granddaughter was exposed at school and tested positive, but did not have symptoms.
The burger and fries look soooo good. Gives me an idea for lunch;)
Have a great weekend, Faith!
Looks like you had a good week! There's nothing like decluttering and organizing things. Joe and I have been working on that little by little. It's amazing how much stuff we accumulate that we don't even remember we have!!
Hope you have a great weekend!
Sounds like a good week and I'm glad to hear you've stayed well and your quarantine is nearly over. Never heard of the gnome thing. Have a good weekend
Funny about the gnome. I had not heard of gnoming. Glad no one got COVID in your groups during your quarantine. It's so nice to have a long-time project like the basement done, or at least made significant strides in it. We need to do our attic and shed but need to wait til it's not so cold. How nice to have the local art work up. That's fun about the tree.
That vegan lunch sure looks good! I love the gnome! What a great idea!
Now I am hungry for a vegan burger! Love yummy!
Friends in my CA hometown just posted on facebook that they were 'frogged'--little green frogs all over their front yard. It was really cute. I'm going to have to look up getting gnomed now.
And hurray on getting some decluttering and organizing done. Even though we just moved, I have some of that to do.
I've never heard of being "gnomed" but it sounds like fun! We were quarantined before Christmas and it was a long 2 weeks. I'm thankful your quarantine is ending soon! Thanks for stopping by :)

Well, so glad you finally got your shelving. There are chores I've been putting off around here too, for a very long time. You may have inspired me to get on it. Glad you could get outside and enjoy the fresh air during your quarantine. I've never heard of being "gnomed" either but there is all sorts of stuff popping up with Covid restrictions to try and lift spirits. I like your winter picture.
