Usually this month drags for me but this year it seemed to fly right by! Weird....because it sure was cold and snowy for most of the month unlike the earlier month of winter.
I'm taking some time today to pause and share FIVE of my FAVE blessings from the week. Then I link up at Susanne's site with other bloggers who participate. Join us!
- FITNESS WALK TURNED HIKE! In the early afternoon on Saturday, my friend Diane from church picked me up and we met my friend Gerri at a local nature preserve. (click on link to read about it) Our intent was to just do the historic 1.6 mile loop at a power walk pace. Well, too much crusty snow for that so we grabbed our stabilicers and hiking poles and did an actual hike ALL through the entire preserve minus the short loop trail. We had a blast! It was about 36 F and partly sunny. Some of the trails we hiked I had never been on! Our total milage was 3.78! It took us 1.5 hours I'm thankful for friends to hike with and for local places to explore.
Just over the bridge at the trailhead this is the main trail that has 6 different trails off of it with some making a loop |
Gerri and Diane on the Tall Spruce trail (my fave section). By now we have hiked 2 miles. |

- READING BOOKS! I've been doing a Facebook Photo Challenge that I learned about from Linda over at Willow's Cottage. But, once I post my pic, I generally get right off of that site and no longer scroll down.....I'm finding it to be a huge time waster. Rather, I'm reading more on the weekends and in the evenings as I don't watch tv and I save Netflix for an occasional movie night with Dave or for some fave series I watch while folding laundry or cooking. I finished a book and a half in one week while on Winter Break last week and am about half way through the non-fiction book I'm reading. I love to read and am thankful for a good town library and for great books!
- TEA TIME! I'm cutting back on caffeine in the late afternoon (it's been tough for me as I'm a coffee aficionado!)...I'm not a huge hot tea drinker...don't like most of it...found an AMAZING (you cannot go wrong with the Tazo or Yogi brands!) herbal tea that's caffeine free. New fave. New late afternoon drink if I don't head right out for a power walk. New way to unwind with a book in the evenings. Thankful for this flavor!

- OUTDOOR TIME! Wednesday was sunny, a high of 40 degrees F and the snow was perfect for packing. We took the students out in their snowsuits, boots, mittens, etc (we had asked for these items in an email home the previous day) and out of our 13 students, 7 came to school and all but 1 was prepared! (we do have extras for that one). We had a blast pulling them on sleds, making a little hill with our PT's help...and the OT took a few of them up a bigger hill outside the playground area as a special treat. It was great and we stayed outdoors for an entire hour. I'm thankful the winter is turning to milder temps and more "spring" like.
- SHAMROCK SALES! I was really getting tired of my winter decor last weekend so put it all away minus a couple of paintings and my vase of pine boughs and red berries. I headed over to Michael's and discovered that all of the St Patricks Day decor was 40% off! SCORE! I bought a cute welcome sign for the side door, a little leprechaun holding a sign that says "blessed" for a shelf in my family room, and a mini garden flag with a rainbow, pot of gold and "Welcome" written across it. We aren't Irish but I do like changing some decor for the various seasons. Plus, this weekend, I'll be putting away my few Valentine's items and it's just not Spring yet so too early to decorate for that season. I also have some silk carnations in a pretty green and white that I put into a mason jar and that will be our dining room table centerpiece until the silk crocuses come out. I'm thankful for sales!
That wraps it up for me!
I hope you have a wonderfully relaxing weekend doing the things you love!

Hi Faith. So glad you got a hike in. I'm with you about Facebook. It's a huge wasteland. I am completely off for Lent and find that I am not even missing it. Have you seen that Docudrama on Netflix - The Social Dilemma? It's worth watching. I am reading a lot more too - four books so far in February and I may finish another one by Sunday! New record in monthly reads for me! Sledding sounds like so much fun with the little ones you teach. I loved sledding when I was a kid. I also have problems with caffeine, and although I do have a little energy drink to get me going in the morning, I can't do any caffeine at all after about 1 p.m.. I loved all your faves this week. I will probably email later today. I was exhausted last night - any email I sent wouldn't have made sense. ;-) Have a great weekend!
The hike looks great. Now that the bitter cold is gone I may try to make it a goal to get out at least 3 times a week for a good walk now that my gym is no more. I am trying to cut down on my afternoon coffee too, though don't know if I would like a juniper flavor. I've really lost my motivation in seasonal decorating. I might change the odd thing out. I'm so glad to be able to get the dayhome kids outside again. Worth the effort of putting on all their winter gear!
Glad you got a walk/hike in and the kids were able to get outside for a time. I love reading, too. I didn't get any decorations our for Valentine's Day except for the cupcake toppers. I don't have or want anything for St. Patrick's Day. I do listen to the Irish Tenors and sometimes have corned beef and cabbage that day. I am looking forward to spring decorations in a week or two.
That hike sounds wonderful! And yes, you are so blessed to have hiking buddies.
That photo a day challenge has been good for me. It has made me focus on DOING something almost like looking for a FFF blessing.
My birthday is St. Patrick's Day so I love anything shamrock!
That looks like a lovely place to hike and good that you have good company. I can imagine the fun the kids had out in the snow. Yes Facebook can be a great timewaster. Always great to find a bargain! Enjoy your weekend.
