It's Friday! And it was a LONG week. An easier one than last week but it sure felt long. The good news is, SPRING has arrived. So I'm sharing FIVE blessings from the week that all center around Spring.

SPRING FAVES
Watching the horses at the farm across from our road |
- WALKS AND EASY HIKES! Now that the weather is warmer and sunnier and the days are longer, I'm back to my fitness walking outside and weekend "hikes". I don't tend to go to the mountains during Mud Season, but I've discovered some lovely places to hike and walk within a short drive from my house. Saturday found me and my oldest girl out in our neighborhood for a fast-paced walk. It was about 63 degrees F and just perfect. We talked and stopped to watch the horses at the farm across the road from our development. Then on Sunday late afternoon, I met my friend Gerri at a new-to-us- Nature Park in the town just to the north of me. It was an easy 1.5 mile loop. We hiked it twice because it was so easy! All flat with nice wooden bridges across the major muddy, wet spots. I'm thankful for walking outdoors and getting fresh air!

I've hiked in 14 new-to-me nature preserves or parks since the beginning of the pandemic |

- RELIEF! Monday I took some sick time from work in the morning to go to my annual eye exam. I had had two popped blood vessels in my right eye during the last 5 weeks and was concerned. There's NOTHING wrong with my eyes as I was fortunate to get an appointment with this guy. He's amazing. I hadn't seen him in 15 years as he is usually booked solid and I end up with his partner (who is very good as well). He said he can tell I eat a mostly plant-based diet as I don't have the usual signs of aging in my eyes and didn't believe me at first until he saw my records, that I am 61! He explained the popped blood vessels could be more sneezing hard or rubbing my eyes hard or even from consuming omega 3-6-9! (which I do take although it's just twice a week). At any rate, he told me not to worry. Everything looks great and no sign of eye diseases or bad pressure. I'm thankful I managed to get an early morning appointment and that all went well. I then popped in to a funeral for a former TA of mine from my early teaching days and then went to my regular doc to get an antibiotic for this horrible sinus infection I've been trying to get rid of for 10 days! I'm relieved it's starting to work!
crocuses! |
- CROCUSES! We noticed some crocuses pushing through the muddy ground on Saturday morning. Such a sign that Spring has truly sprung here in eastern New York! I'm thankful for Spring blooms and the cheeriness they bring.
- PLAYGROUND TIME! Finally we can take our students outside for gross motor play! Half of the playground is still too muddy so we fenced that off and the children are playing on the part with the climbing equipment, riding toys and balls. I'm thankful we can get outside for 30 minutes a day! Because of Covid guidelines and preschool, we cannot combine our time with another class so it is especially nice to just have our 12 out there.
- EARLY MORNING BIRDSONG: one thing i have always loved about late March in New York, is the call of the robins, cardinals, nuthatches, sparrows, and wrens in the early morning. It's fun to watch them at the feeder once the sun comes up, too but I really love waking up to their songs. I'm thankful we have been able to sleep with the windows open a bit at night so I can hear the birds.
That wraps up my Spring faves......I hope you have a wonderful weekend doing some fun activities and relaxing from the work week!

Hi Faith. So glad you having beautiful spring weather there. Great news that you had a good eye exam and that the antibiotic is working and you are feeling better. I love all your nature preserve hikes! Those are great. Hope you have a good weekend. See you again soon.
Seems we both are thankful for spring and crocuses!
Glad your eyes turned out to be all right. It's about time for a checkup for my eyes as well.
We are supposed to be at 70 degrees tomorrow. I'm looking forward to taking my grandkids to the park. Enjoy your weekend!
Yes spring is definitely here. Glad you got a good report on the eye exam and antibiotics for the sinus infection. Hopefully by now you're feeling much better and able to enjoy the weekend. You have some lovely trails close to home.
We are all so thankful for spring! (except our Australian and South American friends). The crocus, daffodils and forsythia brighten every view. I love it!
Getting out for walks and hikes is wonderful! Yay for sunshine and exercise.
And congrats on your good results from the eye exam. Plant based diets are so healthy!
We're having a bit of a whiplash weather spring. It's gorgeous and warm for days and then all of a sudden we're plunged back into cold weather where I'm scrambling to find mitts for the kids because it's so cold out. Tuesday it's supposed to snow and by Thursday it's going to be 18*C (64*F). Below freezing in the morning and warm in the afternoon. I'll take every opportunity to get the kids outside in the warmer moments I can. Good to hear that it wasn't anything major with your eyes. I love spring birdsong. We've already been hearing canaries and robins.
I'm glad your eyes are ok and you're finally getting an antibiotic. Hope your sinus infection goes away asap. It's good the kids can get out to the playground. Temperatures have been pretty moderate here--we hadn't had either the AC or heater on for days. But we're having another cold spell, so we turned the heater back on today.
The daffodils have come and gone here. I'd like to plan some crocuses.
I knew there'd be hiking mentioned here! Ha ha, I'm glad the weather is getting better and you can hike without snow!! I'm loving the fact that I can go outside and not wear a winter jacket (til Thursday when it snows ha-ha).
