Well here it is at the end of my 2nd week of vacation and it definitely didn't start out the way I planned.
Somehow I wrenched my back in the shower last Friday morning, and I was in excruciating pain. (I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease with 2 herniated discs in my back and arthritis in my right hip and knee from lyme disease (2001-2003) in 2012 so have already had on-going issues on and off over the years.). I managed to get into my chiropractor earlier in the afternoon than originally scheduled and she started some therapy on my back. Most of this week has not been a fave of mine BUT.....there are always blessings in a day, right? So I'm going to share 5 of them now and link up with other grateful bloggers over at Susanne's site.
It is good to look for things to be grateful for even amidst physical pain.
FIVE FAVES
Frozen Raspberry Margarita |
- DINNER OUT: Friday night I had plans with my friend Darlene for dinner at this place just to the north of us. Well, I wanted to keep our plans, so I just used a small pillow for the lower back in the car and she offered to drive. She even gifted me with paying for my dinner! We ate in the outdoor dining area and it was wonderful. It was our first time there. I had the chicken tostados and a raspberry margarita. Dessert was complimentary and was grilled flan with banana and honey. Dar had the pollo poblano (a chicken dish). I'm thankful for our friendship and our unity in Christ. We had been wanting to get together for months and although we see each other at church, it never seemed like we could get our schedules synched. The pain was manageable during dinner and I'm thankful for that, too.
- PRAYING FRIENDS: As soon as I realized this back pain wasn't going away overnight, I reached out to my closest friends for prayer. My spiritual mentor is also dealing with back issues and she was away on vacation in Vermont. I received a wonderfully encouraging text from her with a Scripture about healing and we prayed it for each other. Then my blogging friends Deb and Susanne messaged me that they would pray and about 3 other church friends texted me as well. Dave laid hands on my back and prayed against the fear and anxiety that tend to crop up when I have physical pain in my back. I'm so thankful for praying friends.
Claire in NH May 2021 |
- HELP! Claire offered to vacuum before she left for work Saturday and then she offered to help me get groceries for the cottage on her day off Wednesday. She carried in all the bags and thankfully the bagger at the store filled them but didn't put all the heavy stuff into the same bag like they usually do! I'm so thankful my daughter wanted to help me.....I felt so behind on everything and she has made things much easier for me to prepare for our time at the lake.
- CHIROPRACTIC THERAPY: I cannot stress enough just how much I love my chiropractor. She is just amazing at getting me pain-free. The practice that she founded and runs uses techniques not found anywhere else and also they don't believe in just adjusting the spine. It's all about prevention of further injuries and also utilizing yoga stretches, physical therapy, active release techniques, the hypervolt and low level laser therapy. She got me from a level 10 (10 being the worse pain) to about a 2 as of 2 pm today. Yes, I still have some mid back and low back pain at different times during the day but following her advice and instructions, I am starting to gain better mobility. I'm so thankful for excellent care!
- CENTRAL AIR! This past week has been HOT and HUMID again. It's been super sunny with gorgeous blue skies but the air quality has been so icky with the high humidity. I'm thankful our house has central air conditioning and it's something I never want to take for granted.
That wraps up week 2. Tomorrow we leave for our 10 day vacation in the central region of the Adirondack Mountains and we are just about all packed. Our youngest daughter will join us at some point and our oldest might pop up for an overnight, if she gets a chance as she's also taking some vacation time next week.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend enjoying the last few days before the new school year begins! (for those of you in the south and mid-west I realize you started while it's still summer hahahah).
HAPPY WEEKEND!!

It sounds just lovely. So glad you have a good chiropractor who could get you in earlier than planned and is helping you with a good treatment plan. Dinner out with a friend is always nice. Your getaway to the mountains sounds wonderful! Stay safe and well and ave a good one.
I am so sorry about your back. And I am thankful with you that you are feeling better and will be able to enjoy your ten days in the ADKs.
Times with friends is so important! A dinner out sounds wonderful. We had lunch with my daughter on Sunday at a Mexican restaurant and it was great to have adult conversations with her.
ENJOY YOUR VACATION!
So glad to hear your back is much less painful and that you've had help from Claire. I hope the pain levels stay low so that you can enjoy your vacation. Safe travels.
Back pain is the worst. Praise God for praying people in our lives when these kinds of things crop up. Glad you have a great chiropractor. Your lunch out with your friend sounds delicious. I love Mexican. Though now the season starts where I hate eating outside because of all the wasps, they are crazy. And there is tons here this year because of how dry it was. Enjoy your stay at the lake!
I'm so sorry about your back, especially having back pain right before vacation. I'm glad it's doing better and you have a good chiropractor. I'm glad Claire willingly pitched in to help. Amen to AC. Hope you have a lovely vacation!
