It's a new month today and time to be intentional about being thankful for the blessings from the week. I'm sharing FIVE of my FAVES and linking up at Susanne's site with other like-minded bloggers.
FIVE FAVES
- SLEEPING IN: Over last weekend, I was able to "sleep in" a bit Saturday and Sunday. Sleeping in for me means NOT getting up at 5:30 am but closer to 6:30/7. It felt wonderful and my sleep score on my Fitbit was a 90 on Sunday morning! YAY! I'm thankful for restorative sleep.
the colors of Ukrainian Flag and their national symbol |
- HELPING UKRAINE! My sister-in-law Paula (Dave's youngest sis who lives in central MA) just opened up her own online shop and sells her handmade jewelry:Bracelets, necklaces, and earrings. This month she is featuring items in the colors of the Ukraine flag and sunflowers which is their national symbol. I ordered this bracelet on Saturday and it arrived on Wednesday. I love it. I'm super thankful that 100% of the proceeds of anything under the Sunflowers label is going to UNICEF which is helping to aid the children in war-torn Ukraine. AND her site has a matching donor thing where another company is matching all of her sales and giving the money to UNICEF. A win for these children whose lives are torn apart and a win for me who loves bracelets. Check her out at the following link, PrismArtisans and order yourself something pretty! You'll be glad you did! Tell her Faith sent ya! I already know 2 neighbors who have ordered something and they are thrilled to be able to do something for the children affected by war.

- FIRST REAL HIKE OF THE SEASON! As most of you know, hiking season officially begins in March although it is also known as Mud Season in the Adirondack Mountains. Since it's not good for trails or summits to hike in muddy conditions on mountains that are above 2500 feet, I choose deep woods trails or nature preserves until mid-May/June. Last Saturday dawned partly sunny at my home which is south of Saratoga and about 30 min from the foothills of the ADKS. I had planned on hiking an easy trail system with a hiking friend but she overslept! So I set off alone taking a "fuel efficient route" according to Google Maps. Well it was definitely more fuel efficient but took about 20 min longer than the way I would have normally chosen. I arrived in Stony Creek the Village and stopped at the post office to get my ADK 102 Challenge book signed and stamped with the seal. Then I headed another mile up the road to this trail system. I was the only person there for about 20 minutes at which time a few locals showed up to walk their dogs. I had trouble just showing one photo as there were many beautiful scenes from my easy 2 mile hike. I'm so thankful I had the morning to myself to wander, eat some lunch and check off another new-to-me trail!
crocuses in front flower bed |
- BLOOMS! We have new life that has opened up! Our crocuses (we planted the bulbs more than 20 years ago and NEVER have they come up until this year except for the first 2 years. I just assumed a squirrel ate the bulbs!). Looks like we will soon have tulips too! We also have a couple under our back cherry tree that are yellow that we have never seen bloom! I'm thankful for pretty, delicate crocuses that signify Spring has sprung!
- CONNECTIONS! After church on Sunday, we spied our Pastor's son, and since it had been about a year since we had seen him in person we felt like we should go talk to him. I'm so thankful we did. His huge hug, his conversation, along with that of his sister (whom we see all the time but it's nice to chat with friends our oldest daughter's age and with whom we have a connection) just made us smile and say Thank You, God for our Pastor and his family. There's nothing like connecting with good friends after a great service. And Pastor R and wife D are the best leaders and friends anyone could hope for.
HAPPY WEEKEND!

Hi Faith. That bracelet is beautiful! I will be going over to that website to it out. I love the hike you went on. So glad you could go. I am glad you have much to be grateful for this week. Have a good weekend.
I know what you mean about sleeping in--I can't seem to sleep past 6:30 or 7. but that's a nice break from getting up at 5:45. Glad you had some opportunities to sleep later than usual and to hike. What a neat idea about the jewelry sales. I don't have crocuses, but would like to plant some. How neat that yours are coming up after all this time. Yay for connections.
My sleep in is 7:30/8:00. But it's still wonderful when I'm able to do that. I am so not a morning person. Those look like lovely areas to hike in. They look like more of the kind of hiking we like. While I would love to hike elevations that is just getting beyond me. Love that bracelet and what a generous thing to do by your sister in law. Hope they can raise lots of funds.
Hi Faithe!!! I too am thankful for sleeping in (a little bit). You live in a very beautiful area. I would hike too if I had those surroundings. LOL! I live in the Ozarks and we have some pretty area but not very close to where I am.
Love that bracelet! Sunflowers are my second favorite behind the daisy!
Hope you have a great weekend!
Hi Monica The hike i feature here was about 45 min north west of where I live. I've been known to drive 2.5 hours north to hike in the ADKS High Peaks region. The cottage where we rent every summer is on a lake that is on the west central region of the ADK mountains and it's just under 3 hours from our home. People outside NYS forget how vast our mountains are and how far from civilization :)
