We are already into the middle of October! This month is flying by....I guess because I've been very busy with teaching, small group ministry, family events, housework, fitness stuff...and of course hiking! Let's pause today and reflect back on the week to find FIVE of our FAVE blessings. I do this with other bloggers and we all link up to read each other's list via Susanne's blog. Check it out here!
- SATURDAY HIKE! Oh my goodness. When I say the leaves in the Adirondack Mountains last Saturday were at peak color, I'm not kidding. I posted a few on Instagram as I'm taking a Facebook break and everyone loved the colors. I hiked in the southern region of the Adirondacks on a trail I have done more than 10 times. (the high peaks region was actually past peak and the central/eastern regions were just at peak as well). I started this trail with Dave when we were just newly engaged back in the Autumn of 1989! It's literally my fave hike in the entire southern region. It is a 3.8 mile hike one way to a STUNNING wilderness lake. Along the trail there are 2 other lakes: Bennett (after just 1.5 miles); Middle (at 1.6 miles) and then Murphy. Murphy Lake and lean-to is always my destination. Well, after eating lunch there in the 49 degree weather (BRR), we continued on for another mile! The trail actually goes for 11.1 miles and some people park 2 cars.....one at each trailhead and hike through. I've never done that but next year, the hiker friend I was with wants to do that with me. Her name is Deb and she's from out in the central part of New York. She and I hit it off on a hike the previous weekend when I first met her. We both love longer hikes and this one didn't disappoint. I knew she'd love it. It was her first time on this trail. We had a lot of fun getting to know each other. Here are 5 of my fave photos from the day. I'm so thankful for Autumn colors and perfect hiking weather.

- CHURCH CHAT: After church on Sunday, Dave and I were headed out to the car when our pastor's wife caught my eye. We ended up chatting for quite a while getting caught up on each other's families. I hadn't seen her face to face for a good chat since the early August so this made my heart smile. She's a dear friend and is always so encouraging. I'm thankful for our pastor, his wife and our church!
- BRUNCH! Monday morning I drove out to this place to meet my childhood friend (who is just a few years older than me) for brunch...this small city is about halfway between our 2 homes. We sat for over an hour eating, drinking coffee and catching up on what's going on in our lives. I hadn't seen her since early July when we both had to attend a funeral. After brunch, we headed to this place for a short walk. I'm thankful for days off to connect with friends.

- RELAXING! On Monday afternoon, I made Apple Spice Muffins and the next day after work and errands, I relaxed on the deck with one and a steaming mug of Vermont Maple Coffee. The plates are ones I rarely use. They are vintage 1940s and I found 2 in an antique store back near my childhood hometown area. They were on clearance as the owner was just wanting to get rid of stuff. They are real bone china from Surrey England! I have them standing up on our dining room armoire's little plate holder but I do pull them out, dust them off and use them from time to time. I love blues and yellow together and just find them very charming. I'm thankful for relaxing times on the deck with pretty things.
- SPECIAL FIND! I was grocery shopping at our local chain store and had to go into the seasonal aisle for something. My eye spied this adorable pumpkin shaped plate with the perfect colors for my placemats and cloth napkins and the saying is exactly what I wanted! I've been looking for a pumpkin shaped small plate for cheese and crackers or hummus and raw veggies and this is perfect for us. The only ones I've seen are either gaudy/tacky and made from plastic resin OR have weird patterns on them. This was a great find and a true blessing because I had no idea our grocery store even sold dishes! I'm thankful I found this!
what are your plans for the weekend? Ours are to wake up early tomorrow and help our youngest girl move to her new apartment about 20 minutes south of us in a different town, then we are hosting my sister Hope and her husband Donny for lunch and a bonfire/board games in the afternoon. They rarely come out this way so we are happy to get together with them.
Whatever your plans are, make sure you spend some time in God's wonderful creation!

Hi Faith. Lovely pictures from your hike. Looks like a good one. Sounds like you have a good weekend planned. I hope everything is just perfect. See you again soon!
It's such a treat to find pretty household things unexpectedly. And good for you for actually using them from time to time:)
Your part of the country is just beautiful in the fall. How nice that you can get outdoors and enjoy it as much as you do.
I always enjoy seeing your photos from your hikes in the mountains.
Best of time/weather/luck tomorrow as you move your girl to her new place. And welcome to empty nesters club.
I hope the rest of your weekend will include some hiking and a chance to sit on your deck and relax.
PS: Just read your comment on my post. Love your statement that a paved path is just a walk :)
Understand about the facebook hiatus.
What gorgeous fall colors! How nice to catch up with your pastor's wife and childhood friend. Those muffins look good. What a nice fall plate--it's such a delight to come across "just right" items unexpectedly.
Faith, it sounds like you had a fantastic week. Your photos are beautiful.
Late here but always enjoy looking at your lovely hiking photos. Hope you got your daughter moved smoothly and had a good time with your family visit.
