LATE SEPTEMBER FAVES

The last week of September has flown by! I'm loving the more Autumn-like weather we've been having....cool, foggy early mornings giving way to  bright, blue skies and sunshine with a light breeze, and the scent of wood smoke in the air.....and the mountains are finally beginning to see some color other than green!

I'm thankful for this time of year and I'm thankful for all the blessings God brings into my life.  I'm here to share some that make my "Faves list" from the last week.  Several of us are intentional about finding FIVE FAVE blessings and linking up together at our host's Susanne's site. Head over to learn more!!

FIVE FAVES

Friday late afternoon
22 September
  • BONFIRE, PIZZA AND COURTNEY! Friday afternoon Dave left work early to do some much needed yard work and cut some brush.  I manned the fire to burn the brush after working in my flower garden a bit and enjoyed a nice cold rum and coke.  Courtney had offered to pick up a veggie pizza from our fave place in the town where she works and pop in for a late dinner and an episode in Season 4 of The Handmaid's Tale that we are slowly making our way through.  I'm thankful for my oldest girl and for the fact I didn't have to order any thing or cook  a Friday evening dinner. I'm also thankful we got a lot of the brush burned!

  • MOVIE!  Saturday afternoon I started watching this movie on Netflix......what drew me to it is the fact it's based on a true story, set in Africa, about an albino boy and his life  growing up.  It's a powerful look at bullying, empathy, and love/forgiveness. I highly recommend it.  It took me two days to watch it as I was only watching while cleaning or cutting veggies, folding laundry, etc.  I'm thankful Netflix still has some good quality movies on their streaming service. So many of them are trashy. This one is wonderful.

  • LOCAL HIKE:  Last weekend I had time to go over to one of our local state parks, about 6 miles northeast of our house. There were many people on the trails.  It was a gorgeous warm day so I walked the 2 miles perimeter trail at a brisk pace and got a good cardio workout in!  I'm thankful for local parks to hike in.

  • COFFEE IN BED!  A couple times this past week, Dave has brought me my first mug of coffee in bed.....and how thankful I am for that!  Yesterday, it was only 6:30 when he brought up the first mug and he wanted me to be alert enough to share my thoughts on Acts 17: 26-27 that we will be discussing in our small group next week. Um. I'm retired.....it's far too early for me to have a spiritual talk....but the coffee was awesome and did wake my brain up enough to carry on a conversatio and process some of what he was saying. I'm thankful for a husband who lives to discuss Scripture even though it was very early!
The boat we cruised on...it's too long to fit into my photo!

  • AFTERNOON CRUISE!  Wednesday afternoon I met 2 members of a hiking group I belong to and we did the Lake George Narrows (Islands) Cruise on the largest boat in the Steamboat Company. When I was a child, my parents took me and my sister on this same cruise (different boat) as well as the one hour cruise on the paddle steamboat, and they also took us on the all day cruise that runs the entire 32 miles of the lake from the village up to Fort Ticonderoga.  Dave and I also took our oldest daughter when she was in preschool on the Minniehaha one hour cruise. This was my first time on the Saint.  What a glorious day we had!  I only needed a flannel shirt and during part of the tour, we could shed the layer and just sit on the deck in our short sleeves.  We were on the 3rd level up outdoors.  There are 4 levels on this boat. Lake George and Lake George Village are just inside the Adirondack Park proper.  Lake George gets many many tourists throughout the year and especially in the summer. For those of us from the Capital Region, we are considered "locals" and we love our lake after Labor Day when most of the tourists are gone. Lake George is located in the Eastern region of the Adirondack Mountains and only 48 min north of my house!   Below are 5 of my fave photos from the trip.  I'm thankful for our beloved Adirondack mountains and for the "Queen of the Lakes".

Shelving Rock Mountain
I have hiked to the top of this mountain with my friend Ingrid
a few years ago......it was fun to see it from the boat!

The Tongue Mountain Range in the Eastern ADK
I climbed up Fifth peak in April 2021.
Fifth Peak is the mountain behind the dark green island in the photo
so yes...the 5th peak in the range
(the first peak is to the left of the photo's edge)

Those were the highlights of my week!  Today (this afternoon) I am doing a 7 mile hike (Well that's our goal...we may run out of daylight!) on a trail I've hiked over 10 times. I'm going with a former work colleague.  It's located in the southern Adirondacks outside the village where my childhood camp was located. Should be fun as the Autumn weather so far has been glorious!

What do you have planned for this weekend?? And what are you most thankful for?

UPDATE: no hiking today!  Our entire area including the mountains has yet another rainstorm!  oh well....at least the rest of the week was glorious! :)

Hi Faith! I love that cruise you went on to the lake. Looks beautiful. What a great fall activity for your hiking group. I also like the local hike you went on. Looks like a nice trail! We have found some interesting things on Netflix that we have been watching as well. I heard that you were getting quite a bit of rain there. Beautiful sunny fall day here, but rain is moving in tomorrow and Sunday. I hope you have a great weekend. Thanks for your prayers! See you again soon!

I'm sorry you missed your hike today, but I am glad you didn't get caught up in the mountains when the storm arrived. There's always another day for a hike...
Your week was just filled with sweet things like coffee in bed, good conversations, hikes, pizza and a good movie (well, actually tv series...).
Have a good weekend, too! Hope it's restful and rewarding!

I always love good clean movie recommendations, especially based on true stories. It's nice to have someone else pick up dinner, especially after a busy day. The cruise sounds fun! I'm sorry you missed the hike, but glad you weren't caught in the rain.
