Mid-January Faves

Here we are, past the mid-January point and looking at the last week coming up. This past week has been one of surprises, unexpected extended family issues, and gloom.  The weather has been gloomy, rainy, and our pretty white snow is basically gone due to all the rain. But...there's always something to be thankful for, even in the midst of a dark winter season.

I'm linking up (with other bloggers who look for the blessings in the week) at Susanne's site.  Sharing five faves from my list helps me to focus on the positive.

  • MOVIE NIGHT:  Friday evening was "at home date night" for Dave and I.  We chose to order burgers from our fave burger joint (I had the plant based one and Dave had beef)  and watch this baseball movie based on the true story of a little boy who was born with a spinal  condition who later made it into the majors. What a great movie!  It's a faith-based one and so well done.  We both really enjoyed it.  It's streaming on Netflix currently, if you're interested. I'm thankful for good, clean movies with a positive message and for at home date nights, especially because temps were in the very low single digits that night!

  • NEW CARD:  Tuesday morning our credit card company who holds our LLBean card texted both Dave and I and called us to contact them regarding several suspicious purchases from out of state. I had just paid the bill so knew what was on the last statement.  Come to find out, my card (Dave's was fine) had been compromised. Someone in Florida was attempting to open a Netflix account, shop via the HSN (we don't even have cable!! and I NEVER would shop at HSN cause it's cheap crap), and also try to buy something from Targ*t.  So, the company, knowing our shopping history, didn't put those purchases through as they suspected it was a matter of fraud.  I explained that I only shop at Targ*t in person and with my Red card from them.  And that I've never shopped via HSN (Home Shopping Network), and that our Netflix account is tied to an entirely different card.  They agreed  due to my past spending habits. She closed out my account and expedited a brand new credit card to me overnight...I received it Wed morning!! I'm so thankful for Citi and LLB.  They really care about their customers.

  • RELIEF!  Wednesday morning I was awake early due to some uncomfortable stomach cramping. It kind of felt like heartburn except lower in my body. I've only had heartburn once in my life and that was when I was in Mystic Ct eating bad fried chicken while 6 mos pregnant with my oldest daughter. Never had heartburn since. This was lower and cramping and so I pulled out my essential oils DigestZen and added 5 drops to a glass of warm water and drank it down. I also put 5 drops of the oils onto my abdomen area and rubbed them in. Then I drank a 2nd glass.  Within a couple of hours, I was absolutely fine. Usually, in the past, the  drops work within 10 minutes.  This time it took longer but I'm so thankful for this little bottle of relief. Highly recommend this if you have any kind of IBS issues or heartburn and you don't want to take OTC meds.

  • SILVER SNEAKERS!  I've been doing several different workouts via the Silver Sneakers free videos on Youtube on the days that it's bitter cold or icy or too rainy to walk outdoors.  These videos are anywhere from 10 min to 35.  I have several on my youtube "Workouts" list and this one is one of my faves. I'm thankful I can work out for cardio health in my own home when I need to and no gym fees!!
breakfast!
  • GOOD FOOD:  This week Ive been thankful for an abundance of good recipes, simple recipes, good fruit and easy meal preps.  For breakfast I've enjoyed really good fresh grapefruit which is a perfect way to get exta vitamin C into your body besides from your daily multi-vitamin.  I also made an amazing Enchilada dish for dinner one evening and Dave said "this is a keeper". And when our oldest  daughter came over for a Hulu afternoon on Saturday, I made 3 different homemade pizzas using Naan.  We are so thankful our oldest daughter still likes to hang out with us, too.  She and I watched another episode of Season 3 The Handmaid's Tale (SO good...although it's strayed so far from the novel at this point!) and then my husband was thrilled that she brought over her Star Trek original series from the 1960s to watch a couple episodes of Season 1 with him. I never want to  take family or simple times, and good food  for granted.
BONUS FAVE:  I'm thankful for my good friends from church.  Three of them came over for breakfast last Saturday morning.  My friend Darlene and I have been friends for many years now and she has joined my book study as well as my new group SoulSteps for both walking and hiking.  My new friend Ping is from China and she has agreed to help lead hikes if need be.  My friend Anita is from India and she has agreed to help with the Scriptures for some of the walking meditation days.  How thankful I am to the Lord for surrounding me with  close friends to do life with.

That wraps up the top FIVE things from my weekly gratitude list. What about you? What made you say "Thank You, God" , this week??

HAPPY WEEKEND!

It's so comforting that you have a very diligent credit card company that recognizes suspicious activity. They were able to get your new card to you super quick!

I've not heard of the drops you mentioned. I've written the name down. Amazon maybe? I'll look for it. I'm glad it works wo well for you. I get IBS symptoms sometimes at the end of a fibromyalgia flare.

I agree that family time is precious! It's fun to watch things together. I am a Trekkie from way back and have the entire first season on DVD.

I've heard of Naan but never eaten it. That's a good idea for pizza. Naan has less carbs, if I'm correct. Your enchilada meal also sounds good.

I'm a Silver Sneakers member as well and I really like their variety. I do their walking videos and want to begin their strength training series. I've attended some live classes as well but prefer the videos when I can do them when I want.

Have a blessed weekend.

Hi Faith, I have Digize from Young Living. I have only rubbed it on my tummy. It works even though it smells awful to me. That is nice that your daughter visits. I have a Silver Sneakers account and need to use it more often. Have you seen the Call the Midwife series on Netflix? It is really good! Have a nice weekend.

I've seen The Hill advertised, and it sounded good. That's so good the fraud was noticed and averted from your credit card. We've had some calls from our bank about weird purchases over the years, too, and been issued new cards posthaste.

I have not heard of DigestZen and am not usually much on essential oils, but I do have digestive problems sometimes, so will look into this.

Melanie has told me about Silver Sneakers. I need to look into them.

We're Trek fans, too, though more Next generation than original series. My step-father loves the original series.

It is fun when our grown kids still like to come over and hang out.

Hi Faith! It's nice to meet you, thanks for stopping by my blog.
I have a cousin named Faith and I think it's a pretty name.
I'm sorry about the mistake on my blog. It was supposed to be cream cheese and you're allergic to it. :( I wonder if you could substitute sour cream though, I've heard of people doing that.
Silver Sneakers sounds like something good to check in to. My husband is also a Star Trek fan. I should check the Handmaidens Tale.
Sounds like you have a good group of friends from church, something to be thankful for, for sure!

Hi Faith. So glad that you were able to get a new credit card so quickly. Sounds like the essential oil drops really work well. I have used essential oils before, but not for that purpose. It's cool that your husband and daughter both enjoy Star Trek and that she comes home to watch it with him. Charly and I were both Star Trek fans back in the day, but haven't watched any episodes for years. I hope you have a good weekend. See you again soon.

I've been eyeing that movie on Netflix. I'll have to watch now that you've recommended it. I don't watch much TV but I have been lately. Our library system (in MA) has a streaming platform (I think that's what it's called) called Kanopy. You put the app on your TV and it asks for your library card number. Then you can watch any of the videos that they have. I have watched some very interesting shows.

Thanks for the recommendation for the movie. I'll look it up.
Those quiet evenings at home with family or friends are just the best.
I am so behind on any exercise right now. The weather has been frightful and we just have no energy. I need to figure that one out. It would be great to have a group of people to walk and hike with (I have family and that is good, but they are all so busy).
Have a good weekend!

Oh I'm glad you were able to sort out your abdominal pains and that the bank sorted out the fraud issue too. So many scams to be aware of these days. It sounds like you had a great week with family and friends. I'll have to check out the silver sneakers on YouTube - always good to have a back up plan when the weather is too bad to get out and walk. It hasn't been too bad here this week but it's still chilly. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
