This is now my favorite Miss Marple Mystery right before A Pocketful of Rye.
STORY SUMMARY
Miss Marple is spending part of the winter in the Caribbean. She is beginning to feel a bit discontented with her life. The sunshine and warm breezes are helping her rheumatism, but even though it's like paradise where she is staying, with wonderful guests and accommodating hosts, she is bored. She feels like nothing ever happens here!
Until...... an old soldier begins to tell some tall tales of his time in the army, as well as a murderer he used to know. But...just as he about to show her a photograph of the killer, that he keeps in his wallet, his eyes stray to somewhere beyond where they are sitting and his attention is now diverted. This diversion? It proves to be fatal because the next day, he is found dead. At first the doctors think it is an overdose of some blood pressure medicine. Except he didn't have high blood pressure. And then they discover that he was actually killed! Who would kill this old man??
A few nights later, a young black woman, who is an employee at the resort where Jane Marple is staying is found stabbed to death! Is this related to the General's murder??
Then, another woman is found face down, drowned in a creek near the ocean. She is the wife of one of the wealthier guests.
What is going on?? Can Miss Marple help solve these murders or will she be next??
MY THOUGHTS
This is brilliant. I honestly thought it was going to be a particular woman and it turned out to be someone else.....it was a good twist because the author sets it up to appear to be one particular person.
As usual the setting and character development are superb. I found no editing errors in this book unlike the last one I read.
If you like a fast paced, short mystery, you will love this story.
In my opinion, this book is appropriate for ages 14 and older.
On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest, I rate this a 10.
