I rarely participate in the Wednesday Hodgepodge meme but I liked today's questions. You can find out more about this weekly meme by heading here.
1. It's officially fall y'all...in the northern hemisphere anyway. What are three of your favorite things about this particular season of the year?
2. Your favorite fall fabric-denim, flannel, tweed, corduroy, tartan, polar fleece, leather? Do you own something made with your favorite fall fabric?
I own lots of demin...i love high quality jeans (skinny, wide legged, boyfriend cut, mom jeans (high waisted) and now the barrel legged jeans. I own them all. LOVE them all. But my fave is a super soft, very faded light denim pair of skinny jeans.
I love flannel shirts and own 8. One is a hoodie. I love it. All are made by either LLBean or Natural Reflections/Bass Pro
I used to have a tweed skirt when I was first teaching back in the late 1980s. Haven't owned any tweed since.
I cannot stand corduroy. Although when the girls were toddlers I loved buying them corduroy overalls for colder months made by Carters or Baby Gap or Osh Kosh.
I love leather and will ONLY buy leather totes, leather purses, leather shoes/boots. I own several and have a fave pair of black leather riding boots.
I love fleece...I mean I'm a hiker so...nuf said! my fave brands are LLBean and Eddie Bauer.
3. According to Everyday Health here are ten healthy fall foods- apples (flavonoids may improve brain health), pears (for heart friendly fiber), cranberries (helps your body fight oxidative stress) winter squash (for eye health), pumpkin (another great source of Vitamin A), leeks (an anti-inflammatory food), brussel sprouts (full of fiber and anti-oxidants), sweet potatoes (loaded with Vit A and C), parsnips (keep your bones healthy with Vit K), and broccoli (may help prevent cancer).
How many on the list do you eat on a regular basis? Which one is your favorite? Which one gets a big no thanks from you?
I buy, use and eat all of these wonderful foods regularly (3-4x a week for most) except for brussel sprouts. I rarely find parsnips at the grocery store where I shop but when I do, I do use them in cooking stew. We have a plethora of ways we use cranberries, sweet potatoes and broccoi. You can find a ton of recipes with these items on my side bar under "faithfixes dinner" label. Apples I eat often throughout the year. My fave are granny smith and gala. I don't eat pears all that much although my oldest daughter loves them.
4. Tell us about the last time (or a recent time) you experienced a wave of nostalgia? When we sang It is Well with my Soul last Sunday in church. It made me tear up because I remembered my precious daddy singing it in church when I was a child, and also it reminds me of my church camp days and that camp was just sold and I was just there re-visiting the grounds 2 weeks ago.
5. Sept. 22nd was National Daughter's Day. Like mother, like daughter...does this idiom ring true for you? You may answer in terms of your own role as a daughter or, if you have daughters, then your role as a mother of daughters. I'm not really like my mother (she is in heaven now) although I definitely got my love for an organized and clean house from her along with my love of baking (although I rarely bake these days with just the 2 of us at home). I'm also ambidextrous like she was. I absolutely cannot imagine my life without my 2 daughters (Courtney and Claire). Both live in the same region as me and my husband so we see them often and both are doing a great job in managing their apartments and careers. Courtney is like me personality wise although much more book smart. Claire is like me in body shape, some mannerisms and in like fashion. Both are musical like me. Both are avid readers like me. Both love God (in their own ways). Claire is more assertive like me and Courtney is more sensitive like me. Claire is right handed (the only one in our family of 4) and Courtney is like me and ambidextrous. They both have "collections" like me: I collect mugs and sea glass; Courtney collects tea cups and postcards; Claire collects vintage antique books and elephants. (knick knacks or stuffed)
6. Insert your own random thought here.
These mums are doing so well and I seriously need to paint the deck some next May. I'm thankful we are getting some rain today since it's been a really dry and hot summer.

Hello,
No Bugs!! Yep, that is one of the things we love about autumn too. :-)
I enjoyed your #5.
Carla
I also have two daughters (grown). It's fun to think about the ways we're similar and the ways we're not. I admire the way my girls are living their lives with such intention. I feel like I 'winged it' a lot in the early days of parenting. Thanks for playing along today!
Hi Faith. It was fun to read your answers. I may play along if I have time tonight. I have lots of jeans and plaid flannel shirts too. I love them! I hope you are having a good week.
P.S. I love the new fall look of your blog!
Hi Faith, I enjoyed your post tonight. It is Well makes me think of my grandma. I can still hear her singing her alto part in at our little Methodist Church. I love the old hymns, but our church only does contemporary Christian music. I need to check out your recipes. I want to eat more veggie options. I bet your fall hikes are beautiful!
Thank you for stopping over. You are a no-reply so I don't know how to respond back to you. I enjoyed reading your answers to the questions. I loved reading about your daughters. Also, Well with my Soul is a beautiful song.
I also enjoy bonfires in fall, though it's been a long time since we've had one. Very good point about NO BUGS! I also love that about fall, now that you mention it! Have a great week!
I love all those veggies and I don't dislike apples but don't reach for them often though one of my favorite all time desserts is apple crisp. Maybe I just like them hot with lots of cinnamon. LOL.
