2024 Goals Summer/Early Autumn Update

I had neglected to do a summer update on the goals I had set for my self this year so I'm combining that post with an early Autumn update.  I have a feeling some of these are not going to be met by the end of December but that's ok. I've completed some and the point is to keep growing and learning, right?

PERSONAL GOALS

  • I am continuing to work on my daily French lessons via the  Duolingo app. My two daughters do this, as well as my brother in law, sister in law, niece, and several friends. I'm on day 304 and am half-way through the October challenge. This is an on-going goal.

  • Study one NT book in depth.  This was completed late last spring. I studied Galatians.

  • Power walk 6 days a week.  I'm up to 5 days a week.  This goal is on-going.

  • Hike 3x in the High Peaks region of NYS. I hiked Hurricane Mt in August and Bailey Pond a couple of weeks ago.  I have one more hike to do in the high peaks area although that might not happen by the end of the year due to weather. I had one scheduled for tomorrow but there is 70% chance of rain predicted so I cancelled it. This goal is on-going.

  • Hike 2 new-to-me trails in the deep woods. This goal is met!  I hiked into Lye Brook Falls in Vermont (July) and Bailey Pond (lower high peaks)  a couple of weeks ago.  This goal is complete!

  • Hike 1 mountain never climbed before. This goal has not been met.

  • Practice piano 3x a week.  I did really well with this last winter. But this goal is not met really because I haven't sat at my piano to practice since last April! This is on-going.

  • Visit 3 more ADK towns for the 102 Challenge before the end of Autumn.  This goal is complete!  My oldest daughter and I visited EIGHT more in August. I now have only 11 more towns to go before I can apply for the badge. This challenge will be finished next spring or summer.

  • Volunteer once a month for a church or other event. I had no opportunities to do this in Jan/Feb but beginning in March, I organized and led a Walking Group for ladies and we now meet twice a month on Fridays and once a month on Saturdays. I also have started volunteering with HomeBound, a "shut in" ministry and have done 1 visit in October and written 1 card (October). My next visit will be in 2 weeks. This goal is on-going.
SOCIAL GOALS

  • Have monthly meetings with the new SoulSteps group. This is on-going.  But we have completed March-October.

Coffee or lunch dates with 3 close friends.  This goal is complete!  I had lunch in February with my good friend Diane W and my sister Hope; in the spring I had lunch with my friend Monica and coffee with my friend Lynn E in July and in September with my sister Jill; I had lunch in the mountains with my friend Cindy R in August.

Host 2 Game Nights before end of Summer. NOT DONE....I'm trying to plan a game night for the end of this month.

Invite 2 couples over for dinner before end of October.  This goal is complete!  We had our young friends Scott and Hannah (and our daughter Courtney) over for Sunday dinner in January;  and we had our dear friends Bob and Darlene over for Saturday evening dinner and dessert on the deck in August.

Have monthly date nights with Dave.  This goal is met. We have had a date night (or 2 or 3) every month this year and in fact, just had a fun evening out on Friday night. This goal is also on-going as we definitely believe in keeping dates...it's a healthy marriage thing.

So I guess I'm doing pretty well.

What about you? the goals you set for your self last January or New Year's Eve? Did you meet any of them??

I find now that I'm retired, that I love the flexibility in my life and yet if I don't complete a personal goal...who cares?? I love learning and trying new things and will continue to do so but I don't need to be a rigid  time line. I just like to set goals!

I think you're doing really well with your goals but yes retirement does put a different spin on things. I didn't set any goals this year at least none set in stone, but I am trying to keep up my walking and reading and will probably try and set some realistic goals for next year.
