I'm participating in a blog meme I rarely participate in due to being busy in the beginning of the week. But I really liked today's questions, so thought I'd write up my answers while on break from housework and errands.
1. What memories do you have of Octobers past?
I have lots of great October memories. From my teaching days I remember fun lessons I planned for the special needs prek children: various apple and pumpkin activities/books/cooking; leaf rubbings and other fun art activities all child directed! From family memories: camping during Columbus day weekend in the Berkshires; going to the beach house on Cape Cod; playing with my daughters in the leaf piles; taking them apple and pumpkin picking; bonfire nights; baking desserts with apples and pumpkins; lots of fun day trips and hikes on the weekends; and more recently: Hikes, Waterfall chasing. Here's a fave photo from last October when Dave and I did a long weekend away:
2. Besides here in New Jersey, some of the coziest neighborhoods I've driven through were in rural Ohio and Pennsylvania. The picture reminds me of those times. Does this photo bring any thoughts to mind for you?
photo is from this blog |
it reminds me of my paternal grandparents home (where they retired) in the southern region of the ADK on the shores of the Great Sacandaga Lake.
3. As weather cools I do enjoy Pumpkin Spice and Pumpkin Latte flavors in my coffee. Do you like flavored coffees or teas? Which are favorites for you?
I love flavored coffee but definitely not the pumpkin spice stuff. I like a drizzle of maple in my regular Ethiopian or Sumatra coffee. I love mocha hazelnut coffee (the Peets brand); I love French Vanilla by Green Mountain Coffee. Those are my main ones I love. I also like, in the summer months, the Island Coconut one but I can't remember if it's Green Mountain brand or Starbucks.
4.An orchard near me not only sells apples but pies and their famous apple cider donuts in the fall.
What kind of pies, cakes and pastries do you like to eat?
I don't eat cake. Not a fan. Once in awhile if I'm at a wedding, I will have a very small piece. I don't really eat pie either although I do like Apple Pie, Swedish Apple Pie, Cherry Pie, and Lemon (but not the meringue). If it's a pastry, I lean towards muffins, especially my homemade pumpkin chip muffins, my apple spice muffins or my chocolate banana muffins. If I'm buying a muffin at a cafe, I lean towards the blueberry ones. I also LOVE croissants and most cookies if they're homemade and include chocolate. My absolute fave cookie that I only make (otherwise I'd be huge) once a year at xmas is my recipe for Vegan Chocolate Crinkle cookies. In the Autumn months, I tend to bake cookies and give most of them to our 2 daughters. I recently made Apple Spice cookies. The recipe is on this blog. There are 2 different recipes for that cookie. One included chocolate chips. Guess which one I used!

I love photo of the fall foliage you saw on your trip. So beautiful. It's a good thing you don't seem to like pastries so much. I wish I was the same, lol.
Faith, your post made me so hungry, I had to stop and eat breakast! I think if I'm going to indulge with sweets, it's going to be pie or perhaps a jelly donut. I want to bake more, things I can freeze in individual servings. Baking without using artificial sweeteners is almost impossible though.
Have a great week.
Hi Faith. It was fun to read your answers and see your beautiful fall pictures. Those Vegan Chocolate Crinkle Cookies sound delicious! I hope you have a great week!
I'm with you! No pumpkin spice beverages for me. They taste so fake and just gross, really. I do enjoy pumpkin spice in homemade baked goods. I love muffins and made a batch of pumpkin chocolate chip ones recently. Your apple spice muffins sound really good! Can you share your recipe?
I fell in love with Lake Placid many years ago. It is a magical place and most especially in the autumn. Your muffins and cookies made me hungry for some. Thank you so much for joining in. I really enjoyed reading your answers.
Hi Faith, I enjoyed your post. I thought I had already commented, but I guess I just read it on my phone and I can't comment from there. I do not eat very many sweets because I am borderline diabetic. I do indulge on occasion. I love all the fall-colored trees. It warms the heart!
I know what you mean about being busy. Some weeks I look at the questions and then decide if I'll post or not. Same with Wednesday Hodgepodge. I do enjoy it, but sometimes life is just in the way.
I just realized this morning (Saturday) when I went to comment on peoples blogs, that I never entered my link...haha..just did it.
