Because we were away almost all of last week, I didn't have a chance to participate in this gratitude meme. I'm so thankful for many things so today I can participate and share FIVE of my FAVE blessings from the past week. Join in and learn more about the weekly gratitude post by heading to Susanne's site.
FIVE FAVES
Dave and I on the peak of Sandia Albuquerque, NM |
- VACATION: The highlight for us, so far this Spring, was our trip to Albuquerque to 1. honor our oldest nephew, Adam, age 36, who just received his law degree! and 2. spending time together exploring the highlights of Albuquerque and desert hiking. I'm thankful we had the chance to go, I'm thankful for the safe and easy flights to and from and I'm thankful for the bonds we've estrablished with other T---family members and our marriage. I'm also thankful we got to see this beautiful city!
front garden irises |
- IRISES!! I'm super thankful our front garden irises opened up while we were away and that the cold, rainy weather our area received while we were in NM didn't harm my flowers. Last year, these irises didn't do well. This year I have ALL of them opened and all of them on the south side of the house have opened as well and are just beautiful. I'm thankful for Spring flowers!

- GAME NIGHT Last Saturday night, Dave and I invited his friend Pete over for dinner and game night. Pete's daughter has been doing well in her new group home and we've been wanting him to come over. It was rather spontaneous so we decided just to order Chinese and I had made a chocolate cream pie for dessert. Pete also brought over some bakery cookies. We played Agricola which I have only won once. Dave usually wins. I had a better board than Dave (mine is pictured above) but he ended up having 4 more points than me so I came in 2nd. If you've never played Agricola, I highly recommend it. I'm thankful we could be spontaneous and have a friend over.
Memorial Day Dinner |
- RELAXING Memorial Day was sunny but Dave and I decided we just wanted to relax at home. Dave had some stuff he wanted to do up in his office and on the computer, along with catching up on one the shows he watches on Paramount +. I just wanted to relax in the sunshine on the deck with a book and chatting on the phone with a friend. We had slept in which was nice. In years past, when the girls were young, we would either be at the beach house, my parents' home, or camping during Memorial Day weekend. As they got older, we started just doing day trips on Memorial Day to our fave lakes in the ADK. Monday, the oldest just wanted to get caught up on stuff around her apartment and hang with friends; our youngest chose to work so she could have a floating holiday in June. I ended up just cooking for the two of us: Grilled Italian herb chicken; baked beans, a tossed salad and garlic bread sticks. We had leftover chocolate pie for dessert and spent the evening relaxing on the deck. I'm thankful for relaxing days!
- MID-WEEK HIKE: Wednesday was a day I had planned a hike for my SoulSteps group. I had 6 ladies sign up. All of them go to my church except one who goes to a different church. We went to an arboretum about a half hour away and it was lovely. Our goal was to do the Waterfalls Trail which was only supposed to be a mile. Nope. It was a mile to get to the trail, via another trail. Then the "loop" turned into a second loop that finally brought us back to the welcome center. All in all, we did about 3.7 miles. It was a beautifully sunny day and only got up to about 76 degrees so was just perfect. Below are a few of the flowers from the Gardens and a couple of trail pics. I honestly was so busy finding the trail (it wasn't all that well marked at times) and busy chatting, that I didn't take many photos. I'm thankful for my hiking group and for all the ladies who joined in!
There's always more than 5 blessings in one's week. These are just my faves.
What are you thankful for this day??

Hi Faith. So glad that you had a good trip to New Mexico. You had a lot of positives in your week. I love the pictures from your latest hike. The game night sounds fun. Charly and I need to do game nights with friends more often. I hope you have a good weekend. See you again soon!
Oh goodness, hope all your ladies coped with the extra mileage on your hike. Glad you had a great trip - I enjoyed reading all your posts about it. Yes sometimes we just need a relaxing day at home with no plans. Have a good weekend.
I'm glad you enjoyed your trip. New Mexico has so much to offer. We enjoyed a quiet holiday, too. I really appreciated the down time. Your iris are pretty! Mine did well this year, too, and I'm not sure what made the difference!
We had a simple Memorial Day too. I think we had left overs from the weekend. I loved the hiking trail pictures. Being in the woods makes me happy. Have a great weekend!
So glad your trip went well! I have never been to NM, but have visited other western states--they are very different from the eastern ones but have their own kind of beauty.
I have never heard of Agricola--will have to look it up. We love to play games when the kids are here.
I've always wanted irises. I'm going to try to plant some this fall.
Our Memorial Day is pretty low key as well. The kids come over for grilled burgers at dinner time and we play some games--otherwise, it's s nice, relaxing day.
Glad you had a wonderful trip! I've never heard of that game before. Right now when the kids come home, we're into playing a card game called "Play Nine". It's simple and doesn't take forever. Your memorial day sounds heavenly...and delicious! The hike looks gorgeous!
