Hodgepodge Meme

I'm waiting for a call back from a non profit where I'd like to possibly volunteer this upcoming school year. While I wait, I'm playing along with the Wednesday "Hodgepodge" questions. I liked these.  Head over to this blog to learn more!

1. What's worth standing in line for?

tickets to the NYCBallet at SPAC or the ride up to the top of the Eiffel Tower

2. Tell us about a favorite food related memory.

Dave and I were walking in the hot summer sun along the Cape Cod Canal last summer (late June 2024).  We walked 4 miles round trip on hot pavement to Scusset Beach from Buzzards Bay Recreation Area. Afterwards, we were SO ready for a good lunch of fish and chips. We went to this little dive in Buzzards Bay where I had amazing fish and chips and afterwards we had soft serve ice cream at one of the more popular ice cream places on the Cape. It's one of my more recent fave memories involving food. That vacation week was just amazing.

3. What are some things you find particularly peaceful or calming?

Time in the mountains/woods on a hike  to the summit; listening to any of the  Chopin nocturnes, or the Adagio in G Minor by Giazotto, or one of my faves: Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber. Also, a morning cup of steaming hot coffee on the deck in the sunshine with the Word of God. Praying/meditating and writing in my journal.  Totally peaceful.  I do this after my yoga of Cat Cow and Mountain Pose.

4. Is there something you do now that gets you just as excited as it did when you were a child?

Opening gifts with my 2 daughters and husband on Christmas morning....I still feel that rush of excitement and love for the blessings God brings. And WHY we celebrate the day.

5. To what degree are you in touch with friends from grade school? high school? college if you attended college?

From grade school and high school:  my oldest friends Donna and Cheryl. Donna and I became best friends in Kindergarten and stayed that way until she moved across the Mohawk River from our hometown in central NY to a different school district. We got back in touch in 2012 when my mom died suddenly. Cheryl and I became friends in 2nd grade and we walked to school together every single day of 2nd-12th grade and have stayed friends ever since. We did drift apart a bit after I got married and started having the girls, but we got back in touch in 2012 when my mom passed away. We often hike or do other adventures together. We are in touch weekly via phone calls and texts.

College friends:  I am in touch with several of my friends from RWC via social media and texts.  I have gotten together with a few over the last 42 years! As for grad school, I lost touch with the two close friends I had (Jon and  Maureen).  Maureen and I shared an apartment together during our first year of teaching with our Masters degrees but then she moved back to LI and we never stayed in touch. I have no idea where or how Jon is. Grad school is tough because you make friends but the fellowship program for the EdPsych/Special Ed Masters was so rigorous with the teaching 35 hours a week plus classes 4 evenings a week that we really form close bonds other than with our research and students. hahah

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I loved being able to power walk this week
with out high temps and high humidity!
Temps have been in the low 60s-70s and I'm loving it!!
I love August in Eastern NY...it's usually just beautiful!
This is one of the bike paths in our northern part of town
at the town park where I like to get my heart rate up.
Today we are getting some much needed rain and I'm ok with that!!
I have lunch plans with my cousin Trisha whom I haven't seen since last Spring so I need to get some chores done around the house before leaving to meet her at this place.

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!!

And to all my NYS teacher friends out there:  2 weeks from today you will meet your new students for the new school year! Time is flying........

A hike with a delicious reward at the end is my favorite kind of hike. We've had so much rain this month and I think more to come with a hurricane out at sea. It won't hit us but we'll likely get some of the rain that comes with it. Have a great day!

Good luck, I hope you have had the phone call.
That does sound like an amazing meal and location. I always enjoy food when I have been walking lots.

Before I started having issues with my overused knees and hips from excessive walking and arthritis, my mornings always started with a brisk walk of several miles. Such a great way to start my day! I do envy your cook temps as we are still struggling under heat advisories of over 100 degrees here in North Central Texas. We did have a shower this morning, and although it was refreshing, it only means the rest of the day will be so muggy you can't go outside. Enjoyed visiting with you today.

Great Hodgepodge answers! I'm sure that amazing fish and chips was well worth the 4 mile hike! We had a little much-needed rain last Friday and it was very peaceful and calming to watch it fall. I love the rain.

Hooray for much needed rain. Has been cloudy here for three days but little to no rain. Who can understand the weather? Those fish and chips sound delicious! One of my favorite dishes, to be sure. And when they are perfect...well, it is just perfect!! Enjoyed all your answers today!

Your outing on the Cape with yummy food included sounds like a great adventure for two. Now I'm smacking my lips for some good fish and chips. Christmas struck a chord with a lot of hodgepodgers. You have an impressive list of friends from school years. What a blessing to have old friends and new friends. Have a good evening!
