This book was quite interesting although I was disappointed when it arrived that it didn't include actual recipes! (That's what I was hoping for). I did do quite a bit of high-lighting especially because I loved how the author tied in Scriptures backing up what she was saying about various foods.
There are 4 main parts to this book, which is actually a very thin book. I liked the author's writing style. It was a simple format which also helped. It was super organized. I will do a bullet list for each chapter.
PART ONE: Foundations of Faith-Based Nutrition
- The Sacred Call to Stewardship (loved this!)
- Scriptural Pillars of the Apostolic Diet
- The Triune Approach: Spirit, Soul, and Body Alignment (I learned a LOT)
PART TWO: The Science of Sacred Eating
- Nutritional Theology: where Faith meets Science (very good chapter!)
- Clean Fuel for Holy Vessels (very thought provoking!)
PART THREE: The Practice of Apostolic Eating
- Sacred Rhythms: Fasting as Spiritual Discipline (a good reminder from a class I took last year on Rhythms of Grace and fasting)
- Feasting with Purpose: Celebration and Community (loved this!)
- Daily Rhythms of Revival (super good)
PART FOUR: Practical Implementation
- Transition Strategies: from Bondage to Freedom! (really good!!)
- The Apostolic Kitchen: Tools and Techniques
- Seasonal Eating and Biblical Celebrations (interesting!)
PART FIVE: Recipes for Revival (but there weren't actual recipes...just suggestions of foods, drinks, etc).
- Daniel Fast Meal Plans and Recipes (stuff I already knew/do)
- Clean Protein Preparations
- Healing Beverages and Tonics (I found this chapter fascinating)
PART SIX: Sustaining the Lifestyle
- Overcoming Obstacles: When Faith meets Reality
- Measuring Success Beyond the Scale (helpful for people who struggle with their weight/have body image issues)
- Advanced Practices for Mature Believers (not something I'm going to engage in but I did learn a lot (it's about 40 days of fasting like what Jesus did).
I loved that she tied in the science behind the food choices we make and what the Bible says about those foods.
Although I don't struggle with my weight, I found this to be really informational regarding what God's Word says about what we put into our bodies. I also found that most of what she is describing is known as the Mediterranean Diet which my family already embraces. I also learned more about just exactly why sugar is so addictive and why so many Americans struggle to not eat processed foods.
In my opinion, this book is appropriate for ages 14 and older.
On a scale of 1-10, I rate this a 9.
