What am I most thankful for today?

Well, I am thankful spring seems to have sprung although I just read on my web weathersite that this area might get wet snow tonite...(sigh)...but...it is warm right now (46) and sunny!

The main thing I am thankful for this week is the fact that my youngest daughter's school (an elementary school grades K- 6) have many Christian families in it.
Several of them attend the same church we do.
A couple of them attend a large Baptist church just north of our town.

I am very thankful that these families (the ones I know anyways) are vocal in their beliefs and are taking stands for Christ through prayer, lifestyle, actions, words.
I am very thankful for new friends in these families: Dorrae, Suki.
Suki's daughter is in my youngest daughter's grade. However, I first met her when she worked in the office of the school where I used to teach full-time!

Dorrae is a woman I met through my neighbor! She has a daughter at the school and really believes in praying for the school/teachers/children. I think she might be starting up a moms prayer group. I would love to be a part of that.

The reason I am so thankful for them is that not only do we have the bond of Christ to share but it is good to know that other Christians have chosen the public school setting for their children. We need as many lights in the world as possible, don't we? We happen to live in a fairly "conservative" district yet it is a progressive one, academically. And with that, comes many ideas/values/methods, etc. that might be in conflict with our Christian beliefs. We do what we can to train our children in the truth but....they still need to be surrounded by praying moms/dads/church bodies. And...we need our children to shine for Jesus so their friends, classmates, teachers, staff, etc. might come to know Him personally or at least know the love of God in a real way. We have no idea what kinds of seeds our children, or our prayers as parents, might be planting!

So....that is what I am most thankful for today: the opportunity to pray for teachers, staff, administration and children in our district and the new friendships I have made through these women and through my church.
Thank you, Jesus!

Your school district sounds like ours. And as I think you know hubby and I are both public school teachers and our kids attend public school. So I agree so much with all you wrote in this post. And Praise God for parents and moms who pray for their kids, teachers, administrators etc. Even in conservative areas, evil lurks and we desperately need the prayers of Godly moms for our public schools!
Great post, you have much to be thankful for. :)

Hi Sandy: Yes I am so thankful for people like you and your hubby! This is my first year being employed as a special ed person in a public school. (other than subbing when I first graduated from undergrad!) I love it but I do want to go back to my own classroom someday for Prek Special Ed and in doing that, I would have to go to a private setting as NYS still doesn't have PreK in the public schools. HOpefully that will change one day!

Hi Faith. Thank you for the kind words. I too, am very thankful for your friendship and am thankful for our school. I am praying about starting a prayer group through Moms in Touch, Int. I will keep you posted. Suki is interested as well.
Your website is AWESOME!
Blessings, Dorrae

I always thought that too.. that our children and we should remain in the public. For we have the words of life eternal. If we move away from those that don't have them, we give them less chance of seeing the difference that loving Jesus Christ brings to family life.
We raised our children in public schools and they definitely need a lot of prayer, I can imagine that this is much more critical today. May God continue to bless your children and your schools.
