AmeriKids Photos

Welcome to HizKidz Praise! Music Camp
at Grace Fellowship Church!

This is the sign that greeted the children all week in the center of the main part of our lobby.
On it is a welcome and directions of where to go, what to do, etc.
Claire posed for me on the day of dress rehearsal.
All children, unless a dancer or actor (they had costumes) had to wear the AmeriKids tee-shirt, denim shorts, white sox and sneakers to the dress rehearsal and performance.

CHECK-IN!
This was where I hung out,
along with the administrative director,
every day from 8-9 a.m.

This was our check-in table.

Grace is extremely security conscious, so we had clipboards of each child's name, a place where parents signed their name, left their cell # or where they could be reached during camp hours and a place to sign them out. This was extremely important because we had 95 children every day, plus 35 adult volunteers and about 15 teen volunteers. But, people who normally attend and/or are members of GF are used to this.....it is a way of life at church! And we are so thankful for this organization!

After check-in, children put their lunches in their team's (group) bin and went to the sanctuary for our large group devotional time. The teens at this time every day would perform a skit with some kind of message to go with the Bible verse of the day or with the theme of the day. After the skit, the director would run through a song from the show and pray, after announcements.
If children brought money for the little girl we as a ministry are sponsoring throught Compassion International, they would put it in their team's jar at this time as well.
One day, Claire's team brought in over $180.00!! The team with the most money for "Maria" each day, won a special prize. HizKidz Praise! has been sponsoring "Maria" for a year now and we plan on continuing this.

Since I am back to blogging for a few days this week, I will be posting some pics from the fruits of the camp's labors: AmeriKids, a patriotic musical with a gospel message that the children performed on Friday evening.
I will post a few pics each day from each scene/dance/song.
ENJOY! (click on the pics to enlarge)

The show opens up with the GFNBC News Show.
Characters names: Matt and Meredith
(real names: JJ, Julia)

The show is written to be like a political delegate's convention. They are "on the air" live and talk about the history of our forefathers.
The history is acted out in song, dance and drama as you will see in the pictures I post.
They have 2 commercial breaks which our director filmed to show on the big screens with children who auditioned for the parts in the "commercials". The commercials were a plug for our church's HizKidz Praise! Ministry that takes place during the school year. It was very clever and the audience loved it!

Dance: "AmeriKids" (jazz dance style)
My daughter is backstage at this point.
This was the 2nd scene in the show and the main theme song.

The children who are not dancing are singing the song, and doing hand motions if the song required them.
There were also 2 soloists for part of this song.
I didn't get a picture of them.
Soloists leave the risers and take a spot on the side steps.

The children on the risers in the background of these pictures are the children who were a part of the music camp but who did not audition for parts and/or have not been in HizKidz Praise! The ministry runs from Sept.-April and is for children in grades 3-8. The camp was for children grades K-9th.

3rd Scene: "Sing the States"
My daughter, Claire, is the 2nd one from the right.
This was a "square dance" type of dance.
Again, everyone but dancers are singing.

The song had to be memorized as do all songs/lines from musicals that HizKidz Praise! performs. This song had the entire 50 states in alphabetical order.
The children did an amazing job learning from the CD that was given to them BEFORE camp started (when they registered back in early June). So...although camp was just one week with a show at the end, the children were able to practice the songs for most of June and the beginning of July. This was one of the childrens' favorite songs and dances. It was the longest dance but they did an awesome job! The cowgirl hats gave it a nice touch!

That is it for today....I'll have more pictures up tomorrow!
