TGIF! and I mean that wholeheartedly!
I am so thankful to God that it is Friday!! Thanks to Susanne from Living to Tell the Story, we can take some time to reflect on the past week and find those 5 favorites that helped us get through a winter week.
This was a hectic week for us here. My oldest had a super easy week as she had no school due to mid-terms and since she only had 2 mid-terms (AP Calculus and Physics), she got to stay home and relax. All of her other classes had "in class" exams the previous week. Soooo hard to believe the first semester of her senior year is complete! However, the rest of us had work/school, after school auditions, ballet classes, errands, youth group, church stuff, housework. I felt like I spent most of my free time in the car......I am now a full fledged "theater" mom(between 2 rehearsals per week for a musical, and 3 ballet classes per week, plus violin......).....
This brings me to my first fave of the week!
- THE 6TH GRADE MUSICAL! Claire auditioned in singing and drama and landed the part of one of the narrators for the musical. She was so happy NOT to get a puppy role (they have very few lines). In the 3 years that she was involved in our church's HizKidzPraise ministry, she always just wanted to be a dancer/singer. I was shocked when she said she wanted to try for a role in the school show! She is so happy to have an actual speaking part! So her happiness is always a fave with me! And since the class of 2011 in the Elementary school she is in only has about 90 students, they will have to modify the actual number of "dalmations" in the performances! I'm so thankful that the Lord led my husband and I to this excellent school district!
- ART PORTFOLIO COMPLETE! Finally. My teenager finally completed her art portfolio, essay, inventory and sketches for the Art Dept at the college she has been accepted to. It is about 1 1/2 months before deadline so we are happy. We wish she had taken our advice and completed it before Christmas but..."it is what it is" as my friend/neighbor would say. We mailed it last Saturday and now will wait with bated breath to see if they will accept her as a Graphic Design major. What would really be a fave? more scholarship $...lol....and thanking God for the money she was offered!
- WARM WINTER SCARVES! Last weekend and the beginning of this week gave us bitter cold temps. The coldest yet this school year. One day it never got above 12 degrees! I 'm so thankful that we all have warm, winter scarves to wear to work/school.
- LUNCH WITH A FRIEND! I had a lunch date with a fairly new friend (Jane) from church. I've known her for the last 4 years as she was my youngest daughter's 3rd grade Sunday School teacher. We've come to know each other through Facebook and chatting at church. We finally made plans to do lunch and although we both only had about an hour to linger over a bowl of baked potato soup and baguette, it totally makes my fave list because she is such a grounded Christian! Her effervescence in worship is catchy and she is such an encourager. What a great way to end my work day at this delicious and inexpensive lunch spot! Thanking God for new friends.......
- SCRIPTURE FROM ROMANS 12: 17-21 This part of Romans was in an In Touch magazine I received in the mail this week. The main theme for the month is "Intimacy with God". It is excellent! The short article that drew me in, however, was titled "Mending Broken Relationships: Following God's Example of Reconciliation". This was an encouraging article with several Scriptures to study. I especially like the last verse "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." I have never really come across any one who has been downright "evil" to me personally, and I've always tried to see the best in people. I do know we all sin, daily, even seasoned Christians. What I struggle with is broken relationships. The Bible is so clear on what we should do yet we so often don't heed His direction on this! So...I'm taking these principles that were in the article and applying them to my life. I can't wait to get started! The part that really makes my fave list is this quote "being kindhearted and blessing those who refuse restoration" is how we are supposed to live at peace and overcome evil with good. I am thankful for the Word of God and a God who is patient, merciful, and loving. We learn to live by following God's example!
So those are my Five Faves. What did the Lord bless you with this past week??

Sounds like a wonderful, though hectic, week! I'm glad you were able to have lunch with your friend; we so need those connections.
You are definitely a theatre mom! Great stuff for your kids to be involved in, though. Kudos to your daughter on getting the portfolio in -- and praying patience for you as you wait.
Love the quote you shared. We sure can't do that on our own, can we?
Congratulations to your daughter on her pursuit of a Graphic Design degree! I am a graphic designer and I remember preparing my portfolio for the art department of the college I attended. Good times. May God richly bless her efforts!
You write in such a "friend" tone that I felt as if we were having a conversation. :)
I don't have any enemies either but do have a few broken relationships. I really liked what you said about mending these relationships. Thanks for giving their suggestion on how to do so.
! 1/2 months is still early - congrats on your daughter's hard work. I look forward to hearing the verdict too.
My daughter graduated from the Academy of Art University (SF) and it was a growing experience (talent- and life-wise).
