February Fave Five #4

It's Friday.....I am soooo ready to go back to work! We've had the entire week off due to Winter Break but really, I was so busy that it seems like I need a vacation from my vacation!  I would much rather get out a week earlier in June, than have a week-long vacation smack dab in the middle of winter....I've always felt that way, as a teacher and as a mom!  All 4 of us came down with head colds and coughs for the first time all school year.....so I guess it is good that we had some down time. My husband had Monday off and took a sick day on Wednesday.  Which leads me to the start of finding those blessings from the Lord that help get us through the week....those Five Faves that are special.  THANK YOU to Susanne for hosting this each and every week!  It is important to look back and reflect on what God brings into our lives......

  • Accepted Students Day!  We all traveled to the college where my oldest will be going in the autumn. Had breakfast, attended seminars, went to chapel (it was amazing and I'll share more on that later!), had lunch, met new people (future classmates and parents) and met a couple of the art professors.  Here are a couple of pics from the campus.

  •  Lemon Tea.  For my sore throat over the weekend and for helping with the cough all week.....am not a huge tea fan but this tea is very soothing for a head cold! I really like this brand....

  • Sales!  I put the Xmas potpourri in a ziplock baggie for next year, and bought these vase fillers for spring/summer. They were on sale at Target. They look great in my round glass bowl on the living room coffee table...if my laptop was up and running, I would have taken a pic of my own arrangement....this pic is from the Target website. I have one of the large green balls sitting by itself next to a lamp on the bookshelf in the same room.

  • HELPFUL DAUGHTERS!  My oldest daughter, the one putting up the paint tape, had to help me to work off her portion of the Quebec trip she is taking with French 5 in May.  We don't believe in just handing our children large amounts of money. She had to work off $250 and so far she has worked off about half of that.  So..she was happy to help! Claire, the one seen sanding, actually volunteered to sand where I had spackled.  BLESS HER!!  That is my least favorite part of a painting job!  Thank you, God, for daughters who are old enough to help!

    • FRESH, NEW COLOR! The living room went from the eggshell (off white) color you see in the pic above to "Cornmeal" a yellow shade that really makes the room cheery and warm.  With the afternoon sun, it looks really pretty in there now.  I still don't have my laptop up and running and my camera doesn't work well with my husband's laptop so...I had to take the pics with my cell phone.  The color looks soooo much better "in person" but use your imagination. It is a pale yellow....my accents are still blue, sage, and rose with ivory. I've ordered new valances in Chambray Blue for over the windows on pewter pole rods.  I'll keep the white sheers and pewter tiebacks. Although the room had been repainted once before, several years ago, it makes my fave list because I like the new color so much more!

Part of the living room, minus the new valances!

That's if for me.....do you have any fave moments or things from your week??  Please feel free to share....just leave me a comment and I'll be sure to read it!

    ENJOY THE WEEKEND!

We have some friends that attended Gordon College. I'm glad you were all able to travel and check it out.
I would love to travel to Quebec sometime in the future and I'm willing to work to do it, too. LOL! Good for your daughter in working off part of the cost...
    Have a good weekend.

The new color looks great! I love color in a room. And how nice to have help on a big job!

When I don't feel good I always lose my taste for coffee and tea is much more appealing! My 16 yr old is fighting a huge cold right now and has been drinking real tea with honey and lemon squeezed into it. So soothing.

Hi Ellen: that's awesome that you have friends that went to Gordon...we are very impressed with the college and the staff, etc. Yes..I'd like to get to Quebec myself..but, I'll have to live vicariously through my daughter for now :)

Susanne: I hope and pray your daughter feels better soon....and yes....am so thankful I had help with the paint job!

Cornmeal does sound warm and cheery. How nice that your girls helped you.

Your week was a mixed bag, wasn't it -- with sickness and college excitement both? I know you enjoyed that college visit. It's nice to have a picture in your head of where they'll be.

    Have a great week ahead.

What a blessing that your girls were able to help you with your project! I would love to have a "winter break"! We don't get one of those in Florida. ;)

I can imagine how pretty the yellow paint looks! My parents have two rooms painted yellow, and they're so cheerful looking!

And YES, helpful kids and lemon tea should definitely be on the list! :)
