Wow.
I love when I hear my pastor preach a sermon that just resonates with me. (our pastor has been doing a sermon series titled Powerful Signs (about the miracles of Jesus).
Actually, his sermons do that just about every week. He is one gifted, anointed man of God. We are blessed to have him as our senior pastor.
So this week, the main part of the sermon was based on John 6:16-21.
Yes we all know the story of Jesus calming the storm. Some of us even know the symbolism in that miracle......and that only one gospel talks about Peter actually getting off the boat to go to Jesus. ( I didn't realize that only Mark records that part! I learn something new every.single.week!)
Anyways, while taking notes, it dawned on me that so many of us know that Jesus will calm our storms...that He is there through them all, that He even sometimes is the One who provided the storm to give us a "teachable moment"...He permits the trials and storms of life on this journey.
But....what dawned on me, was that so often we forget that God wants us to simply trust Him. That we need to just keep our eyes on Jesus......to keep relying on our Father. He will get us through. We have power in His name! Because...and this is what really stood out to me....
"through His resurrection, all things are under His feet" (~Dr. Rex Keener, senior pastor Grace Fellowship).
We do not need to fear. He has this!! The trials are under His feet.
Jesus goes before us.............
there is power...Holy Spirit power....available to us!!
Being a Christian does not make us exempt from life's struggles....from those storms that come along.......
we will have them! But we can make it through by trusting in Him.....by really living this daily....trusting and relying on God.........
keeping our eyes on Him as He guides us to calmer waters.
By "getting off the boat" we are stepping out in faith.........we are trusting fully that He has us..........and with that will come spiritual growth.
I want this. I desire this for me, my husband and our daughters.
My soul yearns to be the kind of Believer that totally relies on God...that looks to Jesus not just in the easy times but in the tougher times. the "storms".
Let's get off the boat!!

Your post title rally drew me in and the post was wonderful! Thank you for sharing it! :)
Amen! Great post. Trusting God through good times and bad - something I am trying to do, but sometimes struggle with. I tend to want to control and fix things in my life and yet we know that the only person who can truly fix our brokenness is Jesus Christ. Thank you for these wonderful, life-giving thoughts.
Beautiful...thank you for the smiles on this cold Tuesday morning.
We are learning much of what you shared in the book "Fearless". Good confirmation.
