Yet another Alex Cross book completed. I have read all of them. In order. And I thoroughly enjoy them.
STORY SUMMARY
Alex Cross was born in Starksville, North Carolina. But, at the young age of 8 years old, he went to live with Nana Mama in Washington, D.C. and hasn't looked back at all to his hometown roots.
But now.....35 years later, his cousin Stefan Tate, a physical education teacher, has been accused of a horrible crime...the murder of a teenaged boy. He has also been accused of raping a teen girl. Alex, his wife Bree, daughter Jannie, and son Ali, along with Nana Mama, now 93 years old, drive south to North Carolina.
Alex discovers that his hometown is run down...and the locals definitely don't welcome him back with arms open wide. As Cross gets to know his aunts and cousins, uncles and old friends all over again, he can't help but flashback to his childhood and the horrors he witnessed as a young boy. While he begins to solve the puzzle of what really happened to his father and mother, he also helps his niece Naomi, an attorney for Stefan, solve that case.
But getting to the truth in the town of Starksville, is difficult when no one feels free to talk.
Cross chases his ghosts down to Florida and back to North Carolina where the locals need his expertise to help solve a slew of murders involving socialites. He is chasing after many things: justice for his cousin Stefan, a brutal killer, and the truth about his own past.
Will he find the answers??
MY THOUGHTS
This book is as brilliant as any of the other Cross novels. I particularly liked learning more about Alex's background and parents.
This is the 23rd book in the Alex Cross detective series and like most of the other ones, it is fast-paced and an easy read. It does have a more mature theme about it due to one of the characters' mental illness.
I like how the author tied in the socialite murders to the main plot of the story. It was very well done and very smooth.
I also liked that we get to see a little bit more about his teen daughter Jannie and her running ability.
The Cross family characters are so life-life in every book that it makes the reader want to know more and more. This book doesn't disappoint in that regard.
The best part of the book was the surprise ending. What an ending!! It was brilliant how everything came together and so many questions answered. I don't want to reveal it in case you want to read this novel.
In my opinion, this book is appropriate for ages 17 and older (due to some content).
On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest, I rate this a 10.
