What a week!!
It's been a crazy, busy week but there have been some quiet and peaceful moments and today I am off of work due to taking a personal day to get the rest of my Christmas shopping done and do some baking or a hike later. Haven't decided which is going to happen yet! I"m leaning towards a hike as the weather is supposed to get colder next week so I want to take advantage of the mild temps we have been having.
For now, I am pausing to share FIVE of my FAVE things from this past week, and joining in with others who do the same, by linking up at Susanne's.

BONUS: ST NICHOLAS DAY
|
photo courtesy of Claire opening her stuff in the dorm |
Since Claire is still at UNH finishing up classes this week and dealing with finals next week, we had her St Nicholas shoes all set and stuffed into a care package for her to open on Wednesday morning Dec 6. We have been celebrating St Nicholas Day since Courtney was 6 and Claire was 1. The red wooden shoes you see in the photo were handmade in Holland that my in-laws brought back from over there in 2000. Because the shoes were made for a toddler, a friend of mine bought Claire some bigger shoes for her to bring to college. Courtney, at age 24, no longer plays along. In fact, we did tell Claire that this was the last year for the St Nicholas Day shoes but that we hope the girls continue the tradition when they have children some day. (IF they have children!). It's been a fun way to celebrate my mom's side of the family with the Dutch/German heritage. And how symbolic St Nicholas is for explaining the real reason for the season: God gave us the greatest Gift of Jesus like St Nicholas used to give gifts to the poor. And of course, although we didn't lie to them about Santa Claus, but told them the Truth that Santa stems from St Nicholas, they love celebrating the special day. It will always have a special place in my memories.
So that wraps up this crazy busy week!!
Whatever you have planned for this weekend, I hope you find time to pause and reflect on all the good gifts God brings your way!

That's a fun tradition! Because my husband is of Swedish descent, we used to celebrate St. Lucia's Day.
Don't you love the scent of pine? That speaks Christmas to me!
I love Pentatonix!!
What a great list of Festive Favourites
I had never heard of the St Nichols Day tradition...what fun!
I have been drinking the holiday coffees...but I think its time to move onto the hot chocolates..yum
The smell of gingerbread always reminds me of Christmas... that and cinnamon.
Good luck with that Christmas shopping! I loved carrying out the St. Nick's tradition with my kids. One year, I almost forgot (they reminded me as they went to bed, how excited they were!) and I ended up scrambling around the house looking for treats to put in their shoes!
Merry Christmas! Happy Flannel Pillowcases! :)
Nice decorations! I love that Pentatonix album. Also the Lindt Lindor Truffles - but I only like the milk chocolate ones. I only get them on Christmas, my birthday, Mother's Day, and Valentine's Day. I had not heard of St. Nicholas Day growing up, but it sounds like a fun way to celebrate your heritage.
