FRIENDS AND FAMILY FAVES

It's Friday and at 1 pm I'm through with work for the week and heading home to help pack my husband's car and we're taking off for a mini-vacation!

For now, let's pause and look for the blessings that came to us this past week.  I'm sharing FIVE of mine and linking up at Susanne's with others in the FFF community.

  • ANNUAL AUTUMN DAY AWAY:  My sister Joy, my oldest girl Courtney, and I chose the Eastern Adirondacks for our annual Autumn Day away this year.  We started in Schroon Lake Village at a wonderful little shop filled with all kinds of local artisans wares and then grabbed coffee and scones at this marvelous coffee shop. We walked with our coffees to the town beach and took some photos and then went on up to Brant Lake to visit The Lazy Moose where I bought a pound of marvelous coffee:  Maple Creme from ADK Coffee.  I also bought a couple of beautiful cards handmade by local artists. We topped off our day with lunch at The Gourmet Cafe in Glens Falls and then browsed and shopped at The Shirt Factory where local artists have little shops.  Sadly, most of them were closed due to Covid19 but the 4 that were open were wonderful and fun to shop in.  I bought a few things for Christmas gifts and treated my self to 2 inexpensive necklaces (one is sea glass from Hawaii) made by the owner who is a jewelry designer.  It was fun to meet her!! I'm thankful for our day together making memories.

  • LOCAL HIKE: I was on the trail last Sunday late afternoon, at the local nature preserve I've been trail running/power walking in after work when I received a text from my church friend Darlene asking if I was free to go biking.  I told her where I was and invited her over.  It's about a 20 minute drive for her and so I finished the outer loop while I waited for her to catch up.  We hiked the new trail there and then I took her through the regular route I do when I'm just hiking.  She loved it and I hadn't seen her in the flesh since before Covid!!  It was wonderful to see her and catch up on our lives/marriages/families/work, etc.  She's not in my Book Group this year as she's taking a class at the church instead so having the time to reconnect was something I'm super thankful for.

  • MOVIE NIGHT!  Courtney and I had a movie night last weekend and we chose this movie pictured above. It's available on Hulu and I highly recommend it.  It's classy, clean and a great story set in the 1950s in a small village on the English coast.  It's so well done!  It is almost like reading a Bronte novel!  We just loved it. I'm thankful for these kinds of evenings with my oldest girl.

first apple pie of the season!
  • BAKING FOR FAMILY!  When the weather begins to get chilly in the Autumn months, I tend to start baking special desserts for my family.  I've cut down on this as Dave and I don't need the sugar or calories in our diet but once in awhile it's nice to have a homemade goodie.  I sent Claire (a senior at UNH) her care package full of vegan foods and treats she enjoys from a local market, and I tucked in some homemade Protein Bites (recipe is available under the label faithfixes desserts).  Then I made an apple pie with some Cortland apples Courtney and I bought at a local orchard. It came out great!! I'm not a pie baker usually so I bought the crust.  Easy peasy!!  I'm thankful my family enjoyed their goodies.

Book Group choice!
  • TEXT FROM BEST FRIEND:  One of my best friends (Lynn) sent me a special to my heart text, Wednesday night, after our 2nd group meeting.  It had been a rather difficult discussion based on one new member's conversation and she sent me the most encouraging text. And the funny thing is, the discussion was (mainly) about how to encourage people with words of affirmation. Although that isn't my primary love language, we all could use some encouraging words from time to time.  I was very touched by Lynn's message to me. It warmed my heart and I'm very thankful for her.

Those are the special blessings from my week.

I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend!!

Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian friends (I think it's your Thanksgiving weekend, right??)
and Happy Columbus Day to my USA friends!!

I am going to look up that movie. We watched Hubie Halloween the other night on Netflix. It was absolutely terrible but it was filmed in Marblehead and Salem so we had fun looking at our neighborhood and remembering when the whole town was decorated for Halloween in July last year!

Such a fun day you had! And what gorgeous scenery. The pie looks delicious. I've never heard of that movie. I'll have to look it up. "A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver". Yes, I copied it from above. What a blessing to have your friend send such an encouraging txt at a time you need it. Let me know if that Max Lucado book is good. Happy long weekend.

Your day away sounds like a lot of fun. I watched that movie several months ago on my exercise bike over four days and really enjoyed it. We're the same with baking--we really don't need the calories, but I miss it. I made another apple crisp to share with my son, d-i-l, and grandson last night, so that was good. And mostly gone by the end of the night, so not much to tempt us with today.

That movie looks like it would be a good one to watch with my girls. We all love England, especially the southern coast, so we would love the movie.
And of course, I love seeing all the great hikes you take.
I hope you are having a great great away weekend.

You really had a good week ! The weather is bad, it rains and it's cold so no travel not even to the sea or the Ardennes, the shops have only old stuff and nothing interesting and on top the number of Coronavirus people increase everywhere and we all fear a new lockdown !
