Mid-October Faves

This past week was the mid-point of October and today marks one month of Autumn behind us!  Time is going by fast this school year.  Let's pause today to catch our breath and  reflect on the blessings God gives us each day.  I'm sharing FIVE of mine from the past week and linking up with other bloggers at Susanne's site. What blessings were your favorites?

Claire's childhood bedroom in subdued morning light

  • MOVE OUT DAY! Our second daughter (we have 2 young adult daughters) moved out last weekend into her own apartment in a town about 20 minutes south of us.We are now full time empty nesters!!  Pictured above is her now empty bedroom.  We don't plan on changing the walls anytime soon because it's the only wallpaper in the house and I've heard it's a real pain to remove. (we hired someone to put it and the border up). Anyways, this room is going to become Dave's office (he's ok with the lilac and his desk is grey which goes great in there). We've already bought a brand new black small bookcase for his computer books and Bibles and I've ordered a tall standing lamp with a white rectangle shade and a black frame that has 3 shelves for plants. I'm not sure what will hang on the walls other than our Master of Science degrees in frames but that girly flower will come down and be donated to Goodwill. Our other daughter's bedroom will become the Guest Room. We re-decorated that room last summer.  I'm thankful Moving Out day went well and we had amazing weather for the morning move!

  • FAMILY FELLOWSHIP:  Shortly after we moved all of Claire's things out, my younger sister Hope and her husband Donny came out from the central part of NY to spend the afternoon with us.  I had made a big pot of my bison chili and honey cornbread and had bought Fudge Fantasy cookies from this place for dessert.  We had lunch together and then moved to the backyard to burn some brush and logs we had been saving for the perfect Autumn day.  Saturday was about 74 degrees and just gorgeous!  We sat outside for over 2 hours chatting and playing this board game which is huge fave of ours.  The 4 of us have played it often over the years. I'm thankful for a relaxing afternoon of family and fellowship, especially after a hectic morning.

  • OUTDOOR TIME! Sunday was absolutely gorgeous, although a little bit cooler than Saturday.  Dave had to work on the Production team at church for both  services, so I enjoyed coffee and my devotions and book on the deck in the early part of the morning.  After the 11 am service, I  went outside to start putting away some more summer decor from the deck and realized the cherry trees in the front yard were starting to drop their leaves. They're beautiful!  I'm thankful for time outside in God's creation.

  • DATE NIGHTS!  Dave suggested we have a couple of "in home date nights" each week this  autumn, now that we are full time empty nesters.  So we chose this new-to-us Korean series about a young woman on the Autism Spectrum who becomes an attorney.  It's clean, fun, and very interesting to see an actress portray a young adult with Autism Spectrum Disorder.  ( 10 of the 12 preschool students I have  this year are on the ASD). I'm thankful for good shows on Netflix and time spent doing something fun with hubby.

  • OUTDOOR POWER WALKING:  All week I've been able to power walk outdoors enjoying the colors of Autumn.  We (the eastern part of NYS) are now at peak color....actually Sat-today has been peak with some color starting to wane and some leaves beginning to really fall, especially yesterday when there was a strong wind most of the day. The southern region of the Adirondack mountains was at peak this past week and the central and high peaks regions are now past peak.  My neighborhood has full color as well as the town park (where the photos were taken during my walk on Sunday afternoon).  All around me is evidence of the Master Artist's Hand.  I'm so thankful He has given us a glorious Autumn so far.

That wraps up my FIVE FAVORITES.  What made you smile this week??

I'm glad Claire's move went well and that she's still nearby. You could always paint over the wallpaper if you felt like a change rather than strip it. Look forward to seeing pics of your new office. Those outdoor pictures with all the fall colours are lovely. Glad you had a good visit with your sister and her husband. We also enjoy a game of scattorgories when there are a few of us together. Have a good weekend.

Hi Faith. I love this FFF post! Beautiful pictures from your power walk. The afternoon in the backyard with you sister and family sounds very nice. Scattergories is a fun game. I am glad that Claire's move went well. You have some nice plans for your in-home office. Charly and I need to checkout that show you are watching on Netflix. Sounds interesting. I am glad you have had nice fall weather where you are.
We have also had a beautiful fall, but mucher colder temperatures, rain and even snow is forecast for this weekend. I hope you have a good weekend. See you again soon!

Such beautiful autumn colours to enjoy on your walk! We're enjoying them here in the interior of British Columbia but the leaves are dropping quickly and the "s" word (snow) is creeping into weather forecasts.

Such a beautiful post your outdoor photos are sublime! It sounds like your company arrived just at the perfect time right after your daughter’s move. So glad you had such a sweet visit. Hope the transition from bedroom to office goes great with no snafu’s. Gid bless you for the new week!

I'm glad your daughter's move went well! There are perks to being empty nesters. :-) I'm sure your husband will enjoy his new office space. Your time with your sister and her husband sounds like fun. The autumn photos are so lovely. That series sounds interesting. My husband and I were just talking about a former schoolmate of my son's who we didn't know was on the autism spectrum until she posted about it on FB.

I have heard from locals around here that this is an unusually beautiful fall. The leaves are brilliant! I'm glad you have been able to be out each day. That trail/path looks just like one of ours :)
I'm glad Claire's move out went so smoothly.
Re: wallpaper. Yes, it is a pain to remove! We just finished removing it from four bedrooms, dining room, three baths. Never again.
Enjoy the outdoors in God's creation this week!

Those autumn pictures are gorgeous! We don't get a lot of reds around my area and I find them stunning when I see pics. Glad Claire was able to move out without any bumps along the road. Bittersweet times. Thanks for recommending that Netflix show. We're looking for something new to watch and are having a hard time finding something that suits us.

This is such a nice 'autumn' read. Your bison chili and cornbread sound so delicious. Best of luck to Claire in her new place!
