Firmly Planted

Murphy Lake in the Wilcox Lake Wild Forest
southern Adirondacks, October 2022

The "fun and fitness" group I lead twice a month on Saturday mornings, did a fitness walk this past weekend. There were only 3 of us and it was raining, but we had raincoats and umbrellas and it felt great to just be outside in nature.  The scripture we had been meditating on for the month of October was from Psalm 1.  We were specifically concentrating on verse 3 and  we spent some time writing down our thoughts on this  Scripture.  We then shared our thoughts with each other as we walked. One of the women (Ping)  has given me permission to share her thoughts and I will also include mine.

Ping's words were: "Scripture teaches us how to have a blessed life: we shouldn't listen to evil's advice and be tempted by sinful world views, but we should meditate and follow God's words every day so that our lives will be  like the tree planted by the stream growing prosperously and producing fruits unlike the tree  planted on a rock which would have a hard life and can't withstand the winds." (used with permission).

I had journaled that when we are fully immersed in the Word....firmly planted and grounded in Christ, that the storms of life will come but we will not be shaken.  It's kind of like the photo I have at the beginning of this post.  I have hiked to this lake, which is 3.7 miles up a small mountain (old logging road).  I have been here more than 10  times in my adult life.  Each time I hike this trail (spring, summer, autumn) those trees are still there.  They don't move!  Yes, some branches will break off during bad storms....especially during the rough months of December through April but the trees themselve have roots that go way down.  They are grounded along the edges of this lake. I first discovered this trail in 1988 and ever since then I go every couple of years. The trees have never changed!!

God doesn't change either. He is our constant. When we meditate on God's word, we will reap fruitfulness (the fruits of the Spirit) and we will continue to grow.

How about you? Are you meditating on the Word of God each day? Are your roots firmly planted in Him??

Hi Faith. Lovely post. Yes, I do read and meditate on the scriptures each day and pray always. I try very hard to be "firmly rooted." God bless you! Have a great week. :-)

Love your analogy with the trees.
