FUN Questions

It's a rainy, chilly morning here. I know we need the rain so before I get my day going (I slept in!) and get ready for the 11 AM church service, I'm participating in the Sunday Stealin' cause I love this week's questions.  You can learn more by going here.

1.  Who is your best friend, and why?  What do you like to do together?

That's tough because I have 7 super close friends...I guess you would call them "best friends". Their first names are: Cheryl B, Ann, Cheryl S, Darlene, Monica, Ping, Diane. It's really hard to choose just one because each friend means something different to me.  My friend Cheryl, although not a born again Believer like me, is my oldest friend. We have been friends since 1967 when we were in 2nd grade. We hike together, go on adventures together, and just are there for each other.  She's a super special person to me. The other ladies are all Believers and we are united in Christ in ways that makes me super thankful because there's a give and take in each relationship.  Friend Ping is my newest friend. We just clicked when I  first met her last year...and have become close friends who pray for one another and she's one of my fave hiking partners. Each friend is so special to me. We always have fun together but we can also cry and vent with one another through life's storms. Monica is my spiritual mentor.  Darlene is a walking partner and prayer partner. Diane and I go way back. We like to get together every few months (she lives in a different part of the state) and do breakfast or lunch and take walks together in nature preserves. Ann is one of my other long time friends....we even write snail mail letters back and forth often (she lives in Ohio) and Cheryl S is.......probably the one person who knows the most about me, except for my husband. We get together about once a year.  We text often or meet for dinner. There's a lot more I could say about this friendship but it would take too long.

and of course my husband Dave is my very best friend. We have adventures all over the state and New England.

2. What is your town like? Where  are your favorite places to go? I live in the town of Colonie. We are between the capital of New York (Albany) and Saratoga Springs my fave small northeast city.  There are two parts to our town: south and north. We live in the North part. It's one of the largest suburban areas in upstate NY.  There are about 80, 000 people in the entire town with 2 separate school districts.  My favorite places to go are: the shaker site/Ann Lee Pond Nature Preserve near the airport; The Crossings (our large and newest town park); and the restaurant, Scarboroughs. I also love the Colonie Bike Path which goes along the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers as well as the Erie Canal Trail. We live in a beautiful area with lots to do.  I also love going to our town library. It's the best!!

3. What is your favorite meal? Where and when do you eat it? Well, this is tough because I enjoy all kinds of good food. I think one of my fave meals is the Veggie Hibachi at this restaurant. We go here for Father's Day and/or my husband's birthday. We sometimes go on Mother's Day.  We usually go when there's some kind of a celebration or all 4 of us finally have a free evening together.

4. What is your job like? What do you like about it?  I am a retired Special Education PreKindergarten teacher of 2-5 yr olds. I loved it.  Mainly because I could see the children grow and develop and learn through play based lessons I created. I miss it but am thrilled to be retired!

5. What is your favorite place to go on vacation? (ok, whomever came up with these questions does NOT know proper grammer!!  It should read WHERE is your......I've now corrected this mistake twice. yikes). (see 2nd part of #2 that I corrected) Ok...my fave place to go on vacation is anywhere in mountains. Specifically the Adirondacks but I'll take any mountain range. BUT...I also love going to the ocean on Cape Cod.

6.  What country would you like to visit one day? Well, we have already been to France and Italy, so next on my personal bucket list is Switzerland but we will probably get to Ireland and Scotland first as those are my husband's top choices.

7. What bores you the most? reality tv shows and talks about math or science.

8. What are you looking forward to this summer?  Hiking mountain trails and spending time at the lakes with good friends and family.

9. What is your favorite film?  Again, it's hard to pick just one.  I'll choose two:  Casablanca and Les Miserables.

10. Do you sing in the shower?  of course!!  Lots of times.

11. What is the best gift you've ever received?  the gift of Salvation.  for earthly gifts:  not sure. I've been gifted with many special gifts in the past.  One of my faves was a nature book filled with Scripture and nature based devotionals from my oldest daughter.

12. Do you prefer being indoors or outdoors? Um. take  a look around my blog. What do you think???? outdoorsy all the way!

13. When was the last time your cried, and why?  The last time I cried was Friday morning in the shower because I'm so frustrated as to these daily headaches and I was crying out to God for healing.

14. What do you keep in your bag or handbag?  my wallet; a compact, lip sunscreen, lip balm, and lipstick; a cosmetic bag with vitamins, advil, rock tape, moleskin (it's a hiker thing); small packet of tissues; checkbook (sometimes); pens

15. Can you play a musical instrument?  Well, I was a music major for my undergrad degree so I had to learn the basics of the following instruments:  violin (got an A)  guitar (A)  flute (A)  clarinet(B) trumpet(C) trombone(D) percussion/drums (I think I got a B or C in this); Piano was my major and so yes I've done well with piano. Had two recitals: one was 20 minutes of memorized music and the senior one was 35 min of memorized music. I chose to do something from each major era: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern. I still have the cassette tapes! I still play piano for pleasure but not weekly like I was last winter. I do need to get back to it.

That wraps up the Sunday Stealin' meme!!

Fun post! Wow, I didn't realize that your can play multiple instruments. Good job. Yes, it is easy to see, from reading your blog, that you are an outdoor person. I hope you have a good week. See you again soon!

Clonie! I know where Colonie is. I got my first credit card and bought a clock radio at Sears (RIP) in Colonie Center. My eye doctor is in Colonie
