It Matters

My morning meditation time is centered around the word "kind". In fact, I'm reading through Scriptures and a mini devotional each day this week from the You Version Bible app on my iphone titled One Another: Be Kind. The basis Scripture is from Galatians 5.  You know the one!

I reflected on all of the Scriptures included in yesterday's reading and this morning I spent some time reflecting on Lamentations 3.

God's love never fails.

He loves us unconditionally.

He is always there and His faithfulness and mercy is new every morning.

He is Love. He is Kind.

When I received a text last evening from a childhood friend (we have been good friends  since 1967 when we walked to 2nd grade together every single day! and all the way until we graduated from our little hometown high school) asking if she  could call me, my first thought was "oh man, I just want to relax tonight and read my  fiction book and talk with my husband".

But the morning's meditation and the prompting of the Holy Spirit took over and said "Show Kindness".  Be there for her.

She has never married, never had children, and still lives in our hometown.
She also runs a hiking/social event group and I'm a member.
We still have a lot in common even though I was a private preK special ed teacher and she worked for the state as a director in the Labor Dept.  Vastly different  careers.
She has cats, I have children.
We both own homes.
I'm a Christ follower. She is not. She believes in God. But to my knowledge doesn't have the saving grace of Jesus in her life.

I need to model kindness and show her that I am available to hear her.

She wanted to chat. It was nothing of dire importance yet it was important that I take her call.

We made plans, had fun catching up.  But the point of this post is that although I in my humanness, my selfish desires, just wanted to not  talk on the phone for an hour, I felt like I needed to be there for her the way God is for me when I want to talk to Him.

I can show and model the Light and Love of Jesus by taking those impromptu phone calls even though I want to be doing something different. I can be there for my friends who just want to talk. Who need to be heard.

God puts moments in to our days to serve Him.

This was a way to serve Him:  by showing kindness to my friend who just wanted to
make plans for a get together and to just chat. She probably gets lonely in the evenings.

Kindness does matter.

"Be kind to one another...." ~Ephesians 4:32a~

To whom can we show kindness to, today??

My life scripture! And I love how you applied it to showing kindness even when it is inconvenient or going outside of our wants.
