Here is the entrance to the campground where we camped all last week.

Lewey Lake Campground (a NYS facility) is probably the most "wilderness" campground we have ever stayed in as a family and it certainly has the cleanest beach of any of the Adirondack lakes we have been to thus far. Which is many!

Ok...some of you are wondering about the burn.
It is not a sunburn.
It is not from one of the many campfires.
It is from scalding, boiling water.
It happened our first evening at the campsite.
We roasted hotdogs (I only eat them when we camp),over the fire, made baked beans on our camp stove, and had salad. We followed this up with s'mores.
I washed the dishes while my hubby did the rinse water.
Because we were camping in a part of the Adirondacks that sees several bears pass through that particular campground, we had to wash dishes right after eating, couldn't keep food in the tent or camper and couldn't go to sleep with clothing that we ate in.
So..Dave boiled the big pot of water for rinsing.
He slipped.
Pot of water splashed over me.
I was wearing cropped denim jeans, and leather sneakers on my feet.
I got some water on my knees but....that wasn't bad.
The worst thing was that the water pooled under my sneakers onto my foot (left foot) and before I could kick the sneaker off, the scalding water burned my 2 littlest toes and the skin right under them, on the top of my foot.
I got the sneaker off, Dave meanwhile rushed to pour our cold water into another pan and I managed to soak the foot.
However: the damage was done. I had a 2nd degree burn.
It blistered badly.
Once I got Neosporin on it and covered it, I was fine.
My youngest freaked out. but then realized "hey...mommy won't be making us hike a long mountain 'cause her foot will hurt".
Yeah.
Well, we did hike but it was only a 2.2 mile hike. It really was all I could handle.
And we waited until Thursday to do it. I was burned on Sat. evening.
So....I was fine the next day.
It wasn't until we came home on Friday (2 days ago) and I took off the bandage to replace it with a fresh one, apply more ointment, shower, etc. that the real pain started.
because the blisters broke. Yeah. both of them. so....I still have to keep a bandage on as the new skin is exposed and it hurts!

So..that's the story of the burn.
Poor Dave. He hasn't heard the end of this. He won't for a long time!
He did feel so badly.
Until he realized we wouldn't be doing any major hiking.

It just confirmed for me again that: my camping days are over.
Next year I am getting a cabin. With maybe an automatic dishwasher! At the very least, I will have a real sink! (is a maid too much to hope and pray for???!!)

Coming soon: pictures and more story to tell!

Ouch, Faith! Thank God it was not worse. But your poor toes. Praying it heals quickly!

If you find a cabin that comes with a maid for a good deal let me know.

your camping days are over and i haven't begun!!! don't tell me your girls ages are too old for camping now...3 of my 5 nieces and nephews are around their age. Oh well, they haven't experience it as much as your daughters, so it will be an adventure the 1st few times at least :)

Will go camping at christmas holidays...that's my aim. baby will be 6 mths...and will be at a holiday park...with cooking facilities etc...not as full on as your ones...ease in to the idea...plus don't have the supplies.

take care of your toes!

Hi Tali:
No my daughters do still like it. They actually love their new tent more than the camper. My husband tolerates it. He does it because I love it. But I am feeling too "old" for the rigors of the camper, cooking outside all the time, etc.
I will still be in the woods...but we will be in a rustic cabin with a stove!
Yes, my toes are doing better...thanks for visiting...I'll be by to visit you soon
