Autumn at Blue Mountain Lake
Central Adirondacks
I saw this pic online and immediately loved it.
Autumn is my absolute favorite season although as most of you know, summer is a really close second. I like autumn because the weather, around here, is never too hot to hike a mountain, never too buggy, and yet we have glorious sunshine with bright blue skies for the hiking. I prefer hikes in which I don't sweat!
I also like it because it's my favorite time to bike. And my husband sometimes is willing to bike with me. Neither one of us enjoys biking in the hot, humid weather. So autumn is the perfect time for us to hop on the bikes and spend some weekend afternoons together.
Lately, though, it seems like we are just so busy. Both girls have extra-curricular activities that seem to demand so much of our time. So we try to carve out, on the calender, specific days for either hiking, biking, or even kayaking. And of course it is dependent on the weather!
Today I am hoping to get the kayaks on the roof of Dave's car and head north of Saratoga to a pretty lake in the southern part of the Adirondacks. It is in a state park called Moreau Lake State Park and the lake is man-made. It is a calm lake but should be a nice paddle. The day is looking iffy as I am seeing some morning clouds....so....
Sundays are now booked with church, dinner and then my teenager and Dave have youth group from 4-6 pm. This really makes it difficult to do family things unless it is dinner out. And we try not to go out to dinner so much these days....... this schedule is new to us. But it does give us our Thursday and Saturday evenings back! (former youth group times)
Although the start of the school year is such a busy season, I know it is also important to keep spending quality time in the Word. It is much more challenging for me during the school year than it is during the summer. I am pressing in though as I know this is important for my life journey. And of course we need to be doing that with our children as well. Lately we have been discussing baptism with our daughters. They are still at the point where they are unsure of that whole process. My youngest doesn't really get why it's important. It makes for interesting dinner conversation!
And we have been talking about how we can minister as a family.....like opening up our home more and having friends over.....all of these things take time!
But...it is what I have been contemplating on around our house......
How do you incorporate family time or time to just do the fun things you like to do while in the midst of the school year?
I am curious as to how other families accomplish this!
Please leave me your ideas!!
Enjoy your weekend!

This is always a toughie for us, especially the last 6 years or so where hubby has had to take jobs where he has to work on Saturdays. In the spring when he was laid off we were biking every Saturday morning. It was wonderful, but again stopped when the new job required him there all day Saturdays. That pretty much leaves our family times for Sunday afternoons.
Hi Brenda, thanks for stopping by!
Susanne: yes, there were so many Saturdays when my husband was either traveling for business or very busy with church stuff. Now our Sundays are like that! Enjoy your weekend!!
