I can't believe we are half-way through the month of October. Does anyone else feel like this month is just going by way too fast?
I'm loving Autumn and we've had a beautiful one here in NYS. Just this week, the weather started getting cooler and we finally are seeing our green leaves change to reds, oranges and yellows locally. I'm also still enjoying time on the deck in the morning sunshine or the chairs around the firepit in the late afternoon sun, but for now, I'm sharing FIVE of my FAVE blessings from the week. There were some special things happening that made me smile. Join in and click here to learn more!

- DATE NIGHT! Last Friday afternoon my husband suggested we go up to the Lake George area to one of my fave restaurants on Glen Lake (a smaller lake outside Lake George Village) and have dinner and drinks. I suggested inviting my sister Joy too since she lives up that way and we had some things to talk with her about and I wanted to give her her birthday gift. I had bought, and made, something for her that was to be enjoyed in the autumn months (her birthday is a week after mine in December) so it all worked out perfectly. After dinner and drinks, it was dark and Joy went home but Dave and I drove into the Village to walk around Octoberfest, hear one of the bands that was playing and maybe see the Northern Lights. The Lights didn't appear Friday night (although they were brilliant on Wed and Thurs nights up there). I'm thankful we had the evening out with good food and fellowship. I'm also thankful my sister could join us...she's a single mom and doesn't like to cook on Friday nights either so it all worked out!

- MOUNTAIN ROAD TRIP: Saturday was absolutely gorgeous. Temps in the low 60s. Bright blue sky and gorgeous sunshine. My childhood friend Cheryl invited us to meet her in the Central part of the Adirondack mountains in Speculator and do some exploring along a couple different roads. There was no planned hike. We just wanted to road trip it, getting out at various spots and snapping pics. I can't begin to describe for you just how perfect it was. The whole region was in peak color. It is now actually past peak in the High Peaks (where Lake Placid is) but the Central and Southern regions are just at peak. Eastern region will be at peak this next week. Our last stops were at the above places. Algonquin Lake is my all time fave lake and beach in the south-central region. In fact, if I was super wealthy, I'd buy one of the year round homes and live there all year. I'm so thankful we had the entire day together.....and Dave and I went out for a very late lunch/early dinner at this place so that also made me thankful...no cooking dinner for 2 nights in a row! Below are FIVE of my FAVE photos from the day in the Central Adirondack mountains.

A small path through the woods to a private camp and the edge of the Jessup River Central ADK we had a great time exploring this |
Mason Lake...the back side motorboats are not allowed but canoes/kayaks apparently the fishing is great here. We saw many fishermen |

- OUTDOOR CHORES: Dave took Tuesday off from work since he had to work on Monday, a federal holiday. He agreed to do some outdoor chores for me that I physically cannot do. One was to dig a deep enough hole next to the deck steps and transplant my meadow sage that Claire, our youngest, bought me for Mother's Day. It's still pretty green although the flowering has stopped. I hope it makes it through the winter. This is a new-to-me plant and I know it grows wild on the roadsides in the mountains. I'm thankful some chores outdoors got done by my hard working husband. I'm so thankful for him.
Dave hard at work And yes...the deck needs to be repainted... next spring....my job... I've been scraping since May! |
- STILL BLOOMING! My rose bush brought a smile to my lips this week and a prayer of "Thank You God that this bush is doing well". It looked dead in late August and I couldn't figure out why. Bought some Neem Oil and voila...it perked up and is thriving!
- BAKING AND WARM SOCKS: I finally got around to using up some more of the Cortland apples we had that our youngest girl picked for us at a local apple orchard. I made apple crisp on the rainy Monday we had. It poured all day long and also rained most of the day Sunday. We really needed the rain as August and September were very dry. I also had to put socks on for the first time (other than when I hike or each morning when I wear my workout running/walking socks with sneakers) since last April. I am a barefoot gal and yet Monday's cool, rainy temps made my feet feel frozen. Also, we didn't have hte heat on yet so I really was thankful for warm, cozy socks and the scent of cinnamon and baked apples in the air. And yesterday I baked an apple pie for our youngest daughter to share with us after dinner as she comes over every Thursday evening. Very thankful for good food, warm clothes and family.

That wraps up my faves for the week. And a bonus pic of the supermoon on Wednesday night. It was a glorious evening and the air had that wonderful northeast Autumnal scent: crushed leaves, wet dewy grass, and that balsam and white pine scent that permeates our backyard. heavenly. Thank You God for your creation!!
HAPPY WEEKEND, EVERYONE!

I loved reading all your blessings this week! I could almost smell the apples from your post!
It's fun to read about your trips and read names that bring back memories or sound familiar. My family would take vacations to Lake George, and I can remember riding on a boat there. I also remember a place called Story Book Land or something like that. It's long gone, I'm sure. I also had a friend who lived in Lake George, and I visited her one time. A very pretty region, as I remember it.
That's wonderful that Dave dug that hole for your meadow sage plant. I'd never heard of that plant, so I looked it up. From the photos I found, it looks beautiful like a lavender.
I hope you have a blessed weekend, my friend.
No cooking for two nights - definitely a blessing, especially as you were having such a good time. Lovely photos. Hope this weekend is as good for you.
Hi Faith. You always have such wonderful pictures and have so many great experiences out in nature. The Northeast has such wonderful natural beauty. So glad that you had a nice week. It was sure nice of Dave to help you with the plant. Hope you have a good weekend. See you again soon!
Thank you, Faith! Yes! Storytown. I'm glad they kept some of the buildings. I remember now. And I remember going to Gaslight Village too. Such memories.
Your drives, dinners and hikes are always fun. It's great to stay active.
I think your meadow sage will do fine if you put lots of mulch around it. We planted some native perennial baby plants last week and they seem to have survived the two nights of freezing temps we had. I plan to add some mulch around them this weekend. Isn't it great to have a strong and healthy helpmate?
I hope you have a beautiful weekend so you can be out enjoying creation.
Hi Faith, I enjoyed all the pictures. I think I will make an apple crisp too. But hubby will have to peal the apples for me. Back in the 80's I read a book series called White Indian, and it takes place in the area you live. I think I still have them in a box in the garage. My grandfather read the books too. He passed in 1990, and I sure enjoyed our conversations about the books and the Bible. Have a nice weekend!
I do miss the autumn/fall season in NY...SIGH. Wishing you a beautiful Sunday my friend.
What great outings, and how nice to not have to cook for two nights. Baked apples sounds lovely this time of year. Your rose looks so pretty.
Yay for not having to cook for two nights in a row! Love all your pictures especially the one of Algonquin Lake. So pretty! Well you know I love apple crisp. I rarely make it anymore unless we are having someone over as Hubby doesn't eat sugar and I would literally eat it all myself until it was gone.
